Millwall will face Burnley in a Carabao Cup Third Round match at The Den on Wednesday, September 23 and the match will kick off at 7pm (UK).
After Millwall defeated League Two side Cheltenham (3-1) in round two and the Clarets won after penalty shoot-out against Sheffield Utd, Sean Dyche's Premier League side will now visit London. These two teams haven't faced each other since season 2013/2014 in the Championship when Burnley defeated the Lions at Turf Moor after a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture at The Den.
Whoever wins the tie will next host either the defending cup champions Manchester City or Bournemouth in the fourth round.
After their blend goalless draw in a campaign opener against Stoke, Millwall defeated Rotherham away (1-0) and once more proved a tough nut to crack on their travels, preserving their unbeaten start to the season and making it just three defeats in their last 17 away matches in all competitions. Only thing that will be really significant to Gary Rowett is that historically Millwall have not started seasons out of the blocks and now they have have started on the front foot. Having said that, the question begs if the Lions are up for it this season and a longer run in the cup can give them a boost in the morale for the remaining campaign.
Burnley's Premier League home opener was postponed due to Manchester United's late involvement in the 2019/2020 Europa League semi-final in August. Their first competitive match, the Thursday's Carabao Cup second round fixture against Sheffield Utd went according to plan apart from the injury to Johann Berg Gudmundsson, who was stretched off after a reckless challenge by a Blades' defender Jack Robinson. However, Burnley lost 4-2 to Leicester away in midweek, on their Premier League debut, and it will be doubtful how much rest can depleted Dyche's side get for the Wednesday's trip to London.

Since these two teams last met, Burnley have become an established Premier League side with five consecutive campaigns in the top flight. They should be considered favourites but the cup games often produce unexpected scorelines. In their head-to-head matches Burnley have an edge with 3 wins and 2 defeats, while 3 matches ended draws.
As far as the defense is concerned, Millwall have kept a clean sheet in 7 of their last 20 cup games while the Clarets also haven't scored in 7 out of 20 matches way from home.
Over the years, this match-up has produced an average of 3 goals per game, with both teams scoring on average 1.5 goals. There is a 55% per cent chance of both teams scoring in this fixture, and Millwall have a much better win percentage in those games than Burnley (W7 - W2).
To conclude, I expect a tight contest, so my prediction is going to be - under 2.5 goals.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
