Millwall host Fulham at the Den (London) in the 3rd round of the 2021/22 Championship season and the match kicks off at 7.45 pm (UK) on Tuesday, August 17. Read our reasons for Millwall vs Fulham prediction and betting tips.
TWO UNDEFEATED LONDON SIDES CLASH ON TUESDAY NIGHT
Millwall were forced to settle for the second draw of the campaign in the first home league game of the season as Blackburn came from behind at The Den on Saturday afternoon. Coming into this, Blackburn really had been a bogey side for the Lions - just one win in 11 against Rovers, who did the double over Rowett’s side last season. After Wallace’s opener most inside the ground would have been confident that record would be improved, but a soft equaliser meant otherwise. On the other hand, Marco Silva enjoyed his first victory as Fulham boss as his side thrashed Huddersfield 1-5 to move top of the early season Championship table. Fulham were in cruise control for most part and it seems like the Cottagers are intent on securing an immediate return to the Premier League. The match in midweek may be a third-round pick of the bunch.
HUTCHINSON OUT, COOPER RETURNS AND BALLARD IS IMPRESSIVE
The Lions were dealt a major blow before kick-off at the weekend. Hutchinson, the anchor of the defence, was out with a thigh injury, and with club skipper Alex Pearce on the bench, the role of captain went to the returning Cooper. Despite the absence of Hutchinson, the Lions coped well defensively. Ballard showed exactly why Rowett signed him. He was impressive in playing the ball out of defence and into midfield. That positivity is what led to Wallace’s goal.
The talisman of this Millwall team for the last two seasons looks confident and hungry for goals. While his goal against QPR was a moment of magic, this effort was another that showed his importance. Having the right mindset to make his run, knowing there is a possibility of finding the net, is something that he has added to his game since being asked to play as a forward. His start to the season suggests it could be another very good one – which everyone at The Den hopes will be with Millwall.
SILVA’S SENSE OF ADVENTURE SETS THE PULSE RACING
If you wanted an early illustration of what Marco Silva has introduced to SW6 in a few short weeks, you could find it in west Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon. The Portuguese head coach purred after the final whistle at the St. John’s Stadium about Fulham’s flowing football delivering a deserved result but one of his remarks demonstrated the change of mindset since Scott Parker’s departure. It would have been easy to sit on a two-goal cushion after Harry Wilson’s sending off, but that simply isn’t the Silva way. Instead, the visitors attacked with vigour and the results were glorious.
Aleksandar Mitrovic scored the opener before Josh Onomah made it two with a bundled close-range finish. Matty Pearson reduced the gap but Fabio Carvalho responded immediately to make it 3-1 at the break. Fulham comfortably handled Harry Wilson's red card and Ivan Cavaleiro scored twice late on to seal the win. The Cottagers were the better team and deserved the three points. They didn't get what they deserved last week, but did so this week. Silva obviously prepared the side well and can take plenty of positives from the match heading into the London derby.

Despite Fulham running riot at the weekend, we expect this contest to be a much closer affair. Nevertheless, the visitors are playing with confidence, and Millwall may struggle to contain their attack for the entire 90 minutes, especially with Hutchinson out. Millwall are without a win in their last six London derby matches in the league (D4, L2) and are also without a win in seven home matches in all competitions against Fulham.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
