Millwall host Watford at the Den (London) in the postponed 22nd round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 7 pm (UK) on Tuesday, January 26.
MILLWALL VS WATFORD MATCH ANALYSIS
The host are without a win in nine matches in all competitions (D5, L4) and are 16th in the standings, 12 points from the top-six and 9 points from the bottom-three. They won at Huddersfield (0-1) in the league and lost 3-0 at home to Championship fellows Bristol in the FA Cup Round 4, heading into this match. As for the visitors, Watford quickly forgot about the introductory two defeats in 2021 and are in a series of three wins, with the latest being 2-1 at Stoke. They are in 3rd place, on goal difference below Swansea, and are very much in the automatic tromotion race coming into the midweek’s match.
Millwall ended their ten-game winless run earlier with an away victory at Bristol, but failed to win their next four games in the league (W2, D2) prior to the match against Huddersfield last Wednesday. The results have ceratinly not been that much of a catalyst for their re-ascent to the upper echelons of the table, but another three points here would go a long way to rectifying their hot-and-cold recent form.
The Lions showed earlier in the season that they can turn on the pace when required, so pretty much anything can happen in midweek. Against Huddersfield, Millwall held onto an early lead to register just their second win in 16 league matches. Scott Malone put the visitors ahead inside the opening five minutes and they were not troubled much for the rest of the match by the uninspired hosts.
Watford, on the other hand, are definitely looking to get back to top-flight immediately and are hoping that a change of managers will galvanise the squad as Vladimir Ivic was sacked after his side’s 2-0 defeat at mid-table Huddersfield in December, just four months into his reign. Since Valérien Ismaël took charge, their record across all competitions is ‘W13, L7’ under the Frenchman. Without a single draw since then, it has been all or nothing for the Yorkshire side.
On the back of good performance at Manchester United in the FA Cup, Watford recorded three consecutive wins in the Championship to give themselves a seven-point cushion for the play-offs, but are also trailing the leaders Norwich by seven. The Hornets were holding for the three points against Stoke in in the previous round, but getting over the line is all that matters at this point, keeping the club within reach of automatic promotion.

Looking at the table, Watford is the obvious favourite here. They have last shared the league in season 2016/17 so it’s futile to talk bout their most recent meetings. However, historicaly, the Hornets still hold an upper hand with 11 wins to Lions’ 5 in their last 20 clashes. It goes without saying that Watford is in better scoring form as they have netted 11 times in their last 5 league games, while the hosts have only 4 to their name in that span.
The hosts are without a home win since October 20 in the Championship and have not scored more than once at home eversince. Watford, on the other hand, fares much better at home (W3 when away), so the BettingKick’s Millwall vs Watford prediction is: Under 2.5 goals.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
