Two teams that broke current streaks in the last round, Monaco and Strasbourg will meet in matchday 5 of Ligue 1 on Sunday at Stade Louis II.
Monaco was undefeated in three matches and will be looking to come back on that path following the 2-1 Ligue 1 defeat vs Rennes. They were troubled through the whole game by a good host side that stole away the ball possession but when Wissam Ben Yedder scored at the 28th minute it looked like coach Niko Kovač can be calm regarding the final score. Ten minutes before the end, things dramatically turn around, Steven N'Zonzi scored the equalizer and in the first minute of the added time, Adrien Truffert was a match-winner.
It was a devastating way for Monaco to suffer their first defeat of the new league campaign, but it was on the other side expected because Kovac has a new team that needs time to progress and gel together. Strasbourg's side represents the perfect opportunity for them as they are trying to return to European competition in the next season.
Monaco can certainly be encouraged by their home form, Les Monegasques have suffered just two league defeats at the Stade Louis-II since last September, winning nine of their last 13 matches.
Regarding absentees, there’s just one fitness concern for the Monaco boss Niko Kovač with Aleksandr Golovin out because of the hamstring injury. Other than that, Kovac has a fully-fit squad at his disposal for the showdown with Strasbourg, with Fode Ballo-Toure vying for a recall at left-back over Djibril Sidibe.
Monaco (4-3-3): Benjamin Lecomte, Ruben Aguilar, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Djibril Sidibe, Aurelien Tchouameni, Cesc Fabregas, Youssouf Fofana, Sofiane Diop, Wissam Ben Yedder, Henry Onyekuru
Strasbourg had a very bad opening of the season with three straight defeats but after they beat Dijon in their previous fixture they will try to make a positive change in performances and results. Strasbourg was the better team in every aspect of the game, managed 58% possession, and 17 shots at goal with 5 on target but the goal came just ten minutes from the end when defender Stefan Mitrović got them deserved to win. Strasbourg has lifted itself out of the automatic drop zone for now. They must fight for the momentum to last as possible, their clash with Monaco represents the first of three testing fixtures with Lille and Lyon, and that is probably the toughest schedule in the league right now.
Strasbourg has beaten Monaco in three of the last four meetings between the two sides, with Laurey's men picking up a 3-1 victory in this fixture last season.
Thierry Laurey has several problems, Matz Sels has a long term injury, Lamine Kone and Lebo Mothiba are not expected back for another few weeks at least. Kévin Zohi has been sent to train with the reserves after a training ground bust-up with Thierry Laurey on Wednesday.
Strasbourg (4-3-1-2): Bingourou Kamara, Kenny Lala, Mohamed Simakan, Stefan Mitrovic, Anthony Caci, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Alexander Djiku, Ibrahima Sissoko, Adrien Thomasson, Mehdi Chahiri, Ludovic Ajorque

A man to keep an eye will be ex-Sevilla attacker Wissam Ben Yedder, but the Monaco defense had just one clean sheet in the new season, so both teams to score is our preferable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
