Napoli will be out for revenge against Atalanta on Saturday after they lost vs Juventus due to a controversial situation regarding coronavirus.
Napoli will be fired up and furious after the Juventus controversy, but host leaders Atalanta, who boast a perfect record so far. They were docked one point and given a 3-0 defeat after the Disciplinary Commission ruled they did not do everything possible to attend the Week 3 trip to the Juventus Stadium. Piotr Zielinski and Eljif Elmas are still out after contracting COVID-19, but the outbreak was contained. The club argued it had been banned from traveling by the local ASL (health authority), which urged the team to self-isolate as a precaution. Juve and the Lega Serie A pointed out this had been taken into account by the existing COVID-19 protocol accepted by all the clubs before the season began and two cases did not warrant pulling out of the match. The Disciplinary Commission has ruled Napoli did not have enough reason to warrant missing the fixture. The Serie A protocol agreed by all the clubs and UEFA notes that as long as a team has 13 players available – including at least one goalkeeper – the game must go ahead.
Napoli was very good before that decision. They won comfortably 2-0 against Parma as visitors and then thrashed Genova 6-0 at home in the match that caused them a stressful coronavirus situation. They looked very good in attack with newcomer Osimhen who add depth and strength to skillful wingers Lozano, Mertens, and Insigne.
Napoli (4-2-3-1): Ospina; Di Lorenzo, Manolas, Koulibaly, Hysaj; Fabian Ruiz, Lobotka; Politano, Lozano, Mertens; Osimhen
Suspended: None
Injured: Zielinski, Insigne, Elmas, Malcuit
Atalanta put on another masterclass by thrashing Cagliari 5-2, and it would’ve been more if not for Alessio Cragno, maintaining their perfect start. Atalanta won their opening three Serie A matches for the first time in their history, scoring 13 goals and conceding five, leading some to believe they could challenge for the Scudetto. Atalanta is the first team in Serie A history to score at least four goals in each of their opening three games of the season. The last to achieve this in Europe’s top five leagues was Real Madrid in 1987-88.
They made their first appearance of the season in Bergamo, where the Gewiss Stadium was refurbished to allow for Champions League games. Luis Muriel sprinted clear on a Jose Luis Palomino through ball to score after seven minutes, but the offside flag was raised. As per protocol, the linesman and referee waited until the move had completed so VAR could check that the Colombian was not offside and the goal was given. Muriel’s header was over, while Marten de Roon’s rocket rattled the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area. However, just as Cagliari seemed to be under siege, they got the equalizer with debutant Godin’s glancing header from six yards on a corner.
Atalanta restored their lead with a moment of Papu Gomez magic, curling right-footed into the far bottom corner from over 20 meters out with remarkable precision, bouncing just in front of Alessio Cragno. It was his fourth goal in the first three games. The next goal was pure Atalanta, a series of quick one-touch passes to slice the Sardinian defense apart, finished by Robin Gosens laying it off at the by-line for Mario Pasalic to simply steer into the net from six yards with the inside of the boot. Duvan Zapata was a little more direct with his goal just before half-time, cutting inside down the left flank past Godin to fire in off the inside of the far post with his right from a tricky angle.
Moments later, Cagliari got back into the game for 4-2, Joao Pedro sliding in to meet a Lykogiannis low cross from the left, steering it in from a tight angle. It turned into an end-to-end game with constant counter-attacks, Ruslan Malinovskyi forcing another save from Cragno, and eventually Sam Lammers got his debut Serie A strike. The Belgian dribbled into the box down the right, shimmied past Lykogiannis with some stepovers, and threaded a right-foot angled drive into the far bottom corner.
Atalanta (3-4-1-2): Sportiello; Toloi, Palomino, Djimsiti; Hateboer, De Roon, Freuler, Gosens; Gomez; Muriel, Duvan Zapata
Suspended: None
Injured: Pessina, Caldara, Gollini, Piccini

Atalanta must be the favorite to win this game after recent performances. Napoli lost their leader and team captain Insigne and their defenders are a little bit slow for Atalanta pressing. Away win is a good bet for this match.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
