Napoli will seek valuable points in their pursuit of Champions League qualification as they host mid-table Bologna. Read our reasons for Napoli vs Bologna prediction and betting tips.
Napoli has released a statement assuring captain Lorenzo Insigne did not have ‘any friction with his teammates after his furious post-match rant. His penalty had put them 3-2 up in the final minute against Sassuolo on Wednesday evening, only for Kostas Manolas to give away a spot-kick for the 3-3 result in stoppages. Insigne was filmed storming off down the tunnel, kicking the advertising boards, and shouting what appeared to be ‘what a s*** team!’ Napoli has now released a statement on the situation. “Following media speculation, we wish to clarify that there was no friction between captain Lorenzo Insigne and his teammates. The player wanted to release tension in the final minutes of Sassuolo-Napoli only because of the chaotic finale to the game.” Insigne’s agent had also rejected reports Insigne was shouting at his teammates or even coach Gennaro Gattuso. Napoli is currently under a club-imposed press silence, so none of their employees are permitted to speak with the media.
Napoli forward Victor Osimhen returned to full training on Friday and should be fit for at least a place on the bench against Bologna. After recovering from a head injury suffered in the defeat to Atalanta last month - following a previous shoulder problem and time out with COVID-19 - the Nigerian international can now contest the center-forward spot with Dries Mertens. Both Andrea Petagna and Hirving Lozano remain out of commission, but Kostas Manolas returned as a substitute in midweek - to calamitous effect - and may be ready to reclaim his position at the heart of the home side's defense. If selected, he will line up alongside the returning Kalidou Koulibaly, who was suspended for the defensive disaster show vs Sassuolo.
Napoli: Ospina; Di Lorenzo, Manolas, Koulibaly, Ghoulam; Ruiz, Bakayoko; Politano, Zielinski, Insigne; Mertens
Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic said Cagliari ‘didn’t win, we lost' after the 1-0 defeat and claimed his team needs ‘more hunger’. Daniele Rugani made sure all the spoils stayed in Bologna on Wednesday and Mihajlovic felt a 0-0 draw would have been fair. “It was a draw, they scored in the only way they could score, on crosses,” Mihajlovic said at a press conference. “We weren’t hard enough; it was a 0-0 game. They didn’t win, we lost. There was not enough hunger and determination. I expected a lot more from the attackers. It’s the same match in Genoa. You build well, but we never managed to get close to scoring. There, we lost 2-0, here 1-0, without suffering anything but without creating too.”
The 22-year-old center-forward Musa Barrow struggled against the Casteddu but Mihajlovic claimed it was a step back for the whole team'. “If we take a step forward and one back… Barrow has to play there,” he said. “We only look at the results here, it wasn’t just him who took a step back. The whole team did. We need more hunger and need to risk more, we were left to play without being dangerous.”
For the visitors, midfield regular Jerdy Schouten must serve a suspension, while his fellow engine room operative Nicolas Dominguez came off injured in Cagliari and his fitness will be assessed ahead of kickoff. Takehiro Tomiyasu (calf), Andri Baldursson (thigh) and Aaron Hickey (shoulder) are all closing in on a return but are not expected to feature on Sunday. Therefore, Lorenzo De Silvestri and Ibrahima Mbaye will continue to deputize in the full-back roles, given the lack of other options for Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.
Bologna: Skorupski; De Silvestri, Soumaoro, Danilo, Mbaye; Poli, Svanberg; Orsolini, Soriano, Sansone; Barrow

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
