Napoli meets rivals, Lazio, on Thursday with a Champions League place at stake. Read our reasons for Napoli vs Lazio prediction and betting tips.
Inter saw their 11-game winning streak halted by a bizarre Samir Handanovic's own goal, but Christian Eriksen grabbed a point away from Napoli. The Partenopei knew a win would put them joint fourth with Juventus, while the Nerazzurri were after a 12th consecutive Serie A victory. Victor Osimhen almost pounced on a weak Milan Skriniar back-pass and Fabian Ruiz fired straight at Samir Handanovic, while Stefan de Vrij and Kalidou Koulibaly nodded over from set plays. Inter again focused on defending and counter, with Lorenzo Insigne sprinting back as the last man to intercept Achraf Hakimi from 12 yards after Romelu Lukaku threaded through for Matteo Darmian. Moments later, Marcelo Brozovic’s effort was redirected onto the crossbar from close range by Lukaku, who poked a toe at it. Napoli took the lead instead with a bizarre incident, as Insigne got down the left and tried to fire it across for an Osimhen tap-in from six yards. However, Handanovic intercepted fumbled the ball after colliding with Stefan de Vrij and it went back over the line. Lukaku hit the frame of the goal for a second time when redirecting someone else’s attempt, as Christian Eriksen’s free-kick bounced off his stomach and onto the upright.
Inter were more aggressive after the break and after a series of crosses were cleared with difficulty, Christian Eriksen thumped a left-foot strike into the far bottom corner from the edge of the box to equalize. Napoli had a huge chance to restore their lead on 64 minutes, but Politano’s free-kick was flicked on by Giovanni Di Lorenzo to skim the far post and Fabian Ruiz. Meret took the sting out of Eriksen’s snapshot, but the game developed back into the initial pattern of Napoli possession and Inter counters. Politano almost scored against his former club at the 80th minute, slaloming through defenders to smash it off the underside of the bar with his weaker right foot.
Midfielder Diego Demme is suspended for the visit of Lazio, so on-loan Tiemoue Bakayoko may have to come back into the first XI after an extended spell out of favor. Goalkeeper David Ospina remains out of action with a thigh strain, with the 32-year-old stopper possibly being missing until the end of the month, so Alex Meret deputizes as the home side's last line of defense. Though Mexican winger Hirving Lozano is available for selection - having served his suspension for yellow card accumulation - Matteo Politano is set to continue on the right of Napoli's front three, with Dries Mertens potentially getting the nod over Victor Osimhen for a start in the center.
Napoli: Meret; Di Lorenzo, Manolas, Koulibaly, Rui; Bakayoko, Ruiz; Politano, Zielinski, Insigne; Mertens
Ciro Immobile said Lazio must learn from their mistakes and that the Biancocelesti should be 'ready for anything' to reach a top-four finish. The Aquile secured the three points in a 5-3 win against Benevento, but although they were 4-1 up at one stage, it was a surprisingly tight battle to the last kick of the game. “We did well in the first half, but we could have killed off the game earlier,” Immobile told the media. “We lower our guard in the second half and this is the result, we must learn from our mistakes, that’s how we can improve. I am satisfied with the goals and the victory. Our target is there," the Italy striker added.
The 31-year-old returned to the scoresheet after almost two months. “The team needs my goal, and I live for goals too, but I am not obsessed. I scored thanks to the help from my teammates. We are not going to give up. We must be ready for anything to qualify for the Champions League,” Immobile said. Lazio sits sixth, four points off fourth-placed Juventus, but have a game in hand.
Lazio striker Felipe Caicedo returns from a one-match ban on Thursday and should return to the bench, with first-choice pair Ciro Immobile and Joaquin Correa starting upfront in this crucial fixture. Midfielder Lucas Leiva could also be absent through injury once more, while potential replacement Gonzalo Escalante is also struggling to be fit in time. Though Luis Alberto and Senad Lulic both missed training on Tuesday, they are expected to feature in the squad, as Adam Marusic continues to fill in at center-back and Patric stays consigned to the bench.
Lazio: Reina; Marusic, Acerbi, Radu; Lazzari, Milinkovic-Savic, Parolo, Alberto, Fares; Correa, Immobile

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
