Heading to the final round of matches any of the top three teams in the group F can qualify for the second round, and Napoli must earn a minimum a draw against Real Sociedad at Stadio Diego Maradona to go through to the knockout stages.
Napoli missed the chance to secure qualification to the next stage of the UEL with a game to spare after their 1-1 draw away to AZ, who are also in a hunt for a second-round slot. In that game, Alkmaar missed the penalty for the potential win but on the other side, Napoli had two good chances with Petagna to complete the job in the first part of the competition. They are unbeaten in their last four matches, with three wins and three clean sheets in this period, scoring 11 and conceded just one goal. Their recent wins have been achieved in a great manner, so confidence among players is high.
Napoli ran riot at the Stadio Scida with another 4-0 victory last weekend, including great goals from Lorenzo Insigne and Andrea Petagna. The Partenopei broke through in Crotone with a classic Insigne right-foot curler into the top corner, then provided the assist for Chucky Lozano. The hosts crumbled with Jacopo Petriccione’s straight red card for a tackle over the ball on Diego Demme. Dries Mertens came off the bench and created two goals for Demme and Petagna.
Gattuso’s only injury problem is that of Osimhen. The striker is recovering from an injury and he is likely to be out for this year. After his big-money move from Lille, Osimhen has scored just two goals in all competitions but with him, in the attack, other players got more space and chances. Two weeks ago, it was claimed that Napoli’s players and coaches had not been paid in all season due to financial problems resulting from COVID-19.
Real Sociedad have hit a dip in form sending them out of first place in La Liga and potentially out of advancing to the knockout stages of the UEL. They are second going into matchday 6 with eight points and are level on points with AZ Alkmaar. Sociedad does have the better head-to-head record with the Dutch outfit and will advance to the last 32 if they finish on the same level of points. They head to this game on a run of eight matches unbeaten, winning four, and they have failed to score in just three of their last 10 games. Their draw at the weekend away to Alaves allowed Atletico Madrid to move into first place in the division with two games in hand. Each of their last four matches has ended in a draw and they will be seeking a first win in five matches here.
In the first meeting with Napoli in this group, Sociedad suffered a 1-0 loss at home, and in their last Europa League game, they draw 2-2 with the worst team in this group, Rijeka. They were flying high in La Liga, top of the division and impressive across all fronts, but now, injuries and frustrating results have stagnated their progress in the last fortnight. Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil has injuries piling up heading into the game on Thursday night. David Silva, Asier Illarramendi, and Mikel Oyarzabal are all three likely to miss the game through injuries. All three are suffering from muscle strain injuries Illarramendi is likely to be out longer than the other two. Alguacil will be desperate to get Silva back as the team’s goal creator and leader. Joining the trio on the sidelines is likely to be Jon Guridi and Luca Sangalli. The duo is struggling with muscle strain injuries as well. Sangelli is unlikely to return until after Christmas.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
