The Netherlands is in crisis regarding results, performances, and injuries and without a win under new manager Frank de Boer but the Bosnian rejuvenated side could be their ideal target to break the bad luck.
The Netherlands has made an uninspiring start under newly installed manager Frank de Boer, but after four games without a win under their new coach, a first victory could be in sight on Sunday. The Oranje have lacked form and stability following the departure of the previous coach Ronald Koeman, with the team providing flat performances vs Mexico and Bosnia last month.
Their Group 1 opponents, Bosnia-Herzegovina, held the Oranje to a 0-0 draw just last month in Zenica, though the Zmajevi’s squad has been hit by COVID-led withdrawals in the lead up to Sunday’s rematch, and talismanic striker Edin Dzeko is among the most high-profile absentees.
The Netherlands had a rough test match on Wednesday night against Spain. They were down by one goal after the first half, but Donny van de Beek scored the equalizer quickly in the second part, setting the final 1-1 score. Oranje collected only five points from the opening four matches in this UEFA Nations League group. They are going to need two victories for the first place under the condition Italy doesn’t beat Poland.
Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk is a long-term absentee, while they are also missing Jasper Cillessen, Matthijs de Ligt, Mohamed Ihattaren. Tonny Vilhena also tested positive for COVID-19 last week.
Netherlands (3-5-2): Tim Krul; Joel Veltman, Stefan de Vrij, Nathan Ake; Hans Hateboer, Frenkie de Jong, Gini Wijnaldum, Donny van de Beek, Daley Blind; Memphis Depay, Luuk de Jong
Bosnia-Herzegovina has similar problems, they are without several key players on Sunday due to COVID-led withdrawals, including star striker Edin Dzeko. They failed to qualify for the next EURO and were unable to score in each of their last three matches. Bosnia has lost a friendly match against Iran, losing it at home ground 2-0. It is worth adding that only players from domestic Premijer Liga were playing.
Coach Dusan Bajevic has already announced he will be retiring from this position in a few days, so things are not looking so great in terms of team spirit and confidence. Bosnia has lost five out of the last six games across all competitions. They had results that brought them into the company of the elite teams, and they will surely do their best to cause an upset here. Potential victory would mean avoidance of relegation.
Armin Hodzic is expected to deputize in the forward position, but he should have help from the players that know how to play on this level, like Pjanić, Krunić, Višća, who can provide assists and crosses into the rivals penalty box.
Bosnia-Herzegovina (4-3-3): Ibrahim Sehic; Branimir Cipetic, Ahmedhodzic, Sinisa Sanicanin, Sead Kolasinac; Miralem Pjanic, Amir Hadziahmetovic, Gojko Cimirot; Rade Krunic, Anel Ahmedhodzic, Edin Visca

The Netherlands gave the manager role to struggling Frank de Boer who had awful results recently. They need some positives for a push in the domestic media and this match against a rival that is also in problems could give them many answers. The Netherlands is a big favorite to win this match.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
