The Netherlands will be trying to make a turnaround after a shocking 4-2 loss to Turkey when they host Latvia in Amsterdam on Saturday evening. Read our reasons for the Netherlands vs Latvia prediction and betting tips.
Frank De Boer's side were favorites to top Group G when the draw was made but after the trip to Turkey that was arguably their toughest game in the section and it didn't go to plan, with a brilliant Burak Yilmaz hat-trick inspiring the hosts to a 4-2 win. The team had lost the 2010 World Cup Final, had lost in the 2014 World Cup semis, but their biggest failure was when they were unable to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. After this setback, they were determined to get on the right path, but after Ronald Koeman's departure to Barcelona, they had to change plans.
Once again, after losing the opener, the team has put themselves under pressure and will have to deliver a proper win at any cost because of any mistake against lower table sides as Latvia certainly is. On the other side, one defeat is far from devastating to their hopes of topping a section that also includes Norway and Montenegro but the Dutch can't afford too many slip-ups. Performance, especially in the defense was poor in Turkey but with this game followed by a clash against underdogs, Gibraltar can put them back on the track.
Norwich City's Tim Krul was a surprise among the posts against Turkey, but despite shipping four goals on the night, he should keep his place after Jasper Cillessen injured himself in the warm-up, while Denzel Dumfries is an option at right-back. Klaassen and De Jong are both pushing for starts after finding the back of the net in midweek, and the former will be pushing for inclusion over Marten de Roon, while De Jong's potential recall could see Depay shifted out wide in place of Donyell Malen. Donny van de Beek and Ryan Gravenberch are also ready to be called upon, but the two midfielders may instead be given a run-out against Gibraltar as De Boer seeks to keep his team fresh.
Netherlands: Krul; Dumfries, De Ligt, Blind, Wijndal; F. De Jong, Klaassen; Berghuis, Wijnaldum, Depay; L. De Jong
They shouldn't have much trouble seeing off a Latvia side beaten 2-1 at home by Montenegro in their opener on Wednesday night. But that game was level with just seven minutes to go and Latvia shocked Austria last time out in the Euro 2020 qualifiers so it won't be an easy night for a Dutch team against a gritty side. The Latvians took the lead in that game through Janis Ikaunieks, but Stevan Jovetic's brace gave Montenegro an excellent comeback victory. The visitors have taken on far inferior opposition of late in the UEFA Nations League but have managed to net in seven of their last eight outings – and the possibility of a goal for them is decent because they have nothing to lose against big favorites.
Latvia defender Elvis Stuglis was forced to pull out of the squad before the Montenegro clash due to health problems, while Vladislavs Gutkovskis and Kaspars Dubra have succumbed to injuries. Kazakevics spoke positively of his side's performance in midweek so may not see the need to make significant alterations here, meaning another start for Dundalk's Raivis Jurkovskis at left-back. The visiting manager has Vitalijs Maksimenko and Alvis Juanzems raring to go from the bench, especially considering that four of his players are walking a tightrope after being booked on Wednesday.
Latvia: Steinbors; Savalnieks, Oss, Maksimenko; Jurkovskis; Jaunzems, Zjuzins, Tobers, Ciganiks; Ikaunieks, Uldrikis

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
