The Netherlands will welcome Mexico and a new national coach Frank de Boer on Wednesday at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam.
Frank de Boer was appointed as the Netherland's new head coach last week and this friendly offer the former coach of Ajax, Inter Milan, Crystal Palace, and Atlanta an excellent opportunity to be with the players and show them his coaching style and preferences. Former player of Ajax, Barcelona, Rangers, and Galatasaray wants to bring back his coaching career on the right path after he failed in the Premier League and MLS.
He has included Teun Koopmeiners in the selection for the friendly match against Mexico and the UEFA Nations League matches with Bosnia-Herzegovina and Italy. It is the first election for the captain of the Jong Oranje and AZ Alkmaar. Steven Berghuis (Feyenoord), Daley Blind (Ajax), and Donyell Malen (PSV) return to the group of players for the upcoming matches, on Wednesday, October 7 in Amsterdam against Mexico at the Johan Cruijff Arena, on Sunday, October 11, the Dutch will resume the UEFA Nations League campaign against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Zenica and on Wednesday, October 14, Italy will be the opponent of the Oranje in the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia in Bergamo. The only major absentee is Matthijs de Ligt is currently injured and is ruled out of this game.
Probably, Virgil Van Dijk will also miss the next friendly to be available to other, more important matches, with Memphis Depay also under the question after a stressful time regarding his transfer to Barcelona. It is a big chance for players like Hateboer and de Roon from Atalanta to confirm they are in a great form, and also a vital opportunity for Frenkie de Jong to show his class with a different roster because he is currently struggling in Barcelona.
The Netherlands will be looking to improve on their last match as they lost to Italy 1-0 in the Nations League but their main aim is to build a squad for the future after years of failing to succeed on the highest level.
Netherlands (4-2-3-1): Jasper Cillessen; Daley Blind, Nathan Ake, Joel Veltman, Hans Hateboer; Marten de Roon, Frenkie de Jong; Quincy Promes, Georginio Wijnaldum, Steven Bergwijn; Luuk de Jong
Mexico has been in excellent form in the CONCACAF Nations League but the match with the Netherlands will be a great test of their form. The likes of Raul Jimenez and Hirving Lozano are stars in Wolverhampton and Napoli and can be very lethal on their good day, but it will also be a good opportunity for their defense and midfield line that has speed and power to cope with Dutch pacey players. Lozano had to withdraw from the squad due to the measures that have been taken by the Health Authority of the Campania Region, including Naples, for the new outbreak of COVID-19 in the Italian League. Orbelín Pineda will join the team to replace him.
Mexico will make drastic changes to their line-up for this game. A few days ago, Mexico beat Guatemala 3-0 with a group of footballers that play in the domestic league, so this is now a chance to see the current shape of the players that are located in Europe.
Martino clarified the situation of the players from the MLS: Pulido, Dos Santos, and Pizarro had no restrictions to travel and he thanked Mexican clubs that allowed him to held trainings and travel to the Netherlands several days before the game. They will have a small training camp there to have more sessions in two weeks with two strong games with the Dutch national team and a few days later against Algeria.
Mexico (4-2-3-1): Hugo Gonzalez; Luis Rodriguez, Nestor Araujo, Hector Moreno, Gerardo Arteaga; Edson Alvarez, Hector Herrera; Jesus Corona, Rodolfo Pizarro, Alan Pulido; Raul Jimenez

It should be a good matchup of the teams with a very different style of play, Netherlands will try to control the ball, Mexico will wait for counters, so both teams to score in the friendly with good front lines is a reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
