NEWCASTLE VS CHELSEA MATCH ANALYSIS
Newcastle are 13th with 11 points from their first eight Premier League matches (W3-D2-L3). The Magpies aimed to build on a 2-1 win over Everton before the international break, but without injured duo Shelvey and Ritchie, and given Southampton’s attacking potential, Newcastle were always going to struggle to pick up points from this match. They ended losing 2-0 and the break will come in handy to prepare for a tough Chelsea test.
As for the Blues, after recording a comfortable 0-3 win at Burnley, Chelsea finished the week in 5th with 15 points, courtesy of a win against Sheffield Utd at Stamford Bridge (4-1). The Blues have been scoring goals for fun in all competitions of late and summer signings are starting to pay off. Timo Werner and Havertz look impressive, and Hakim Ziyech seems to be helping the team improve their game. It is no wonder Frank Lampard’s troops are seen as favourites in Saturday’s clash.
After a heavy defeat to Manchester Utd (1-4) in the 5th round, combined with illness and injuries affecting his squad, Steve Bruce’s side was not at full strength against Wolves (1-1) and Everton (2-1), but have still managed to pick up four points from two difficult fixtures. They had climbed to 11th after their last win on November 1, but have taken a couple of steps back after a defeat to the Saints.
Defensive solidity had been a key facet of Newcastle's previous two Premier League outings. So Magpies boss Bruce's frustration in the was evident as his team appeared to dispense with a formula that worked so well against Wolves and Everton. Only two Newcastle players managed a passing accuracy of over 80% and that ensured they were unable to construct any sort of foundation to attack. They must improve in possession against Chelsea or they do not stand a chance.
Chelsea shipped 54 goals last season, more than any other top ten teams, but have invested heavily in attacking options rather than defensive reinforcements, which could prove costly by the end of this campaign. Having in mind that it is at the back where they are most vulnerable, Lampard will be pleased that they kept the clean sheet in five of their last six league games. After Burnley (0-3) they put another three in Rennes’s net in the Champions League and went on a break with an emphatic win against the Blades.
In that game Chelsea came from behind to beat Sheffield United comfortably at Stamford Bridge, leaving the visitors bottom of the Premier League. Three of Chelsea's new signings were on the scoresheet but it was another summer recruit who stole the show in west London on Saturday. Ziyech, who picked up two assists, showed his quality with countless deliveries into the box from set-pieces and a range of exquisite passing. Chelsea have really stepped up their game and are looking for their 5th win in a row.

Newcastle have conceded a goal in seven consecutive league games; it's their longest run without a Premier League clean sheet since December 2017 (11 in a row).
No side has had fewer shots in the Premier League this season than Newcastle (64). However, the Magpies have scored 10 goals, giving them a shot conversion rate of 15.6% - their highest on record in a single top-flight campaign (since 1997-98).
Chelsea's 11 matches without defeat in all competitions (W6-D5) is their longest unbeaten run since November 2018 (a run of 18).
After failing to score or assist a goal in his first four Premier League appearances for Chelsea, Werner has been involved in five goals in his past four (four goals, one assist).

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
