NEWCASTLE VS LIVERPOOL MATCH ANALYSIS
Newcastle are 14th in the standings, with 18 points from 14 games this season and are without a win in their last four league fixtures (D1, L3). They come into the match against the defending champions on the back of a 2-0 Boxing Day defeat against Man City at the Etihad Stadium. The Reds, on the other hand, will be looking to recover from a disappointing 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion at Anfield on Sunday. They still top the league table, but Jurgen Klopp's side missed the chance to put a bigger gap between themselves and the chasing pack after an insipid performance against Sam Allardyce's side.
Newcastle are winless in four league matches and are really struggling for fresh legs at the moment. Jonjo Shelvey Ryan Fraser will miss this game with groin injuries, while both Lascelles and Saint-Maximin are still said to be feeling the effects of COVID-19, and could continue to miss the first-team action for the Magpies. EFL Cup quarter-final exit at the hands of Championship side Brentford and the latest PL defeat at Man City have increased the pressure on manager Steve Bruce, who will take confidence from West Brom's smash-and-grab showing at Anfield on Sunday.
As for their Boxing Day defeat, it was Newcastle’s 12th in a row away at the Etihad. Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres scored the goals, but the margin of victory could have been far more had Newcastle keeper Karl Darlow not made several brilliant saves. The Magpies had 24% possession and just two shots on target as manager Steve Bruce opted not to risk top scorer Callum Wilson at the end of a difficult 10 days.
On the other hand, Liverpool’s away form in the league has not been great, but they snapped a six-game winless league run on the road with an emphatic 7-0 win over Crystal Palace last Saturday and even if they are only half as clinical on Wednesday night it would still take a monumental effort from Newcastle to prevent Liverpool from winning their final game of the calendar year for the seventh time in a row.
As for their Boxing Day draw against WBA, Jurgen Klopp's side looked to be going five points clear at the top of the table when Sadio Mane fired past Sam Johnstone, but Semi Ajayi scored a dramatic late equalizer to earn struggling West Brom their first point since Sam Allardyce took charge. They have won only four of their last 13 Premier League away fixtures (D5, L4), but will look for a win here to top the Premier League table at the turn of the year for the third consecutive season.

The Magpies, who have lost a club record 77 top-flight fixtures against Liverpool, could lose six consecutive top-flight games against Liverpool for the first time. It would also be the first time Liverpool have won three top-flight matches in a row at St James' Park.
Callum Wilson will probably start here for Newcastle, while Liverpool face another defensive reshuffle after Joel Matip had picked up another injury against the Baggies and one of Rhys Williams or Nat Phillips will deputize on Wednesday.
Steve Bruce will want to make it as difficult as possible for Liverpool - as West Brom did, but if Liverpool gets through the Baggies defense early on, they will do more this time around to make the points safe.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
