Newcastle host Man City at the St. James’ Park (Newcastle) in the 36th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Friday, May 14. Read our reasons for Newcastle vs Man City prediction and betting tips.
Newcastle stunned Leicester 4-2 away from home last time out and have since secured their top-flight status for another season. Steve Bruce's side have only lost two of their last 10 league games and have also taken points off Liverpool and Tottenham in that time. Meanwhile, Man City have stuttered in the league of late, with defeats to Chelsea, Leeds and Man Utd since March. They have also only won one of their last four Premier League matches at St. James' Park but remain massive favourites for three points here. Newcastle may have improved of late but with nothing left to play for they will likely take their foot off the gas.
Newcastle absolutely dismantled the Leicester side, after leading 4-0 during the course of the game, with the game eventually ending 4-2. In-form Joe Willock opened the scoring for the Toons, with a Callum Wilson double downing the Foxes. That made it three wins and a draw at Liverpool from their last five fixtures, having looked set to be involved in a relegation battle a month ago. Newcastle now face a daunting task to replicate their heroics of Leicester, as Man City look to celebrate the English Premier League title with a win at St. James’ Park.
Even though Newcastle have caught everyone by surprise a few times of late, their overall record against big clubs does not make great reading. Even during the current good run, there was a 2-0 home loss to Arsenal while Chelsea matched that score here earlier this term. Man Utd won comfortably at St James’ Park and the Magpies were fortunate to escape with a goalless stalemate versus Liverpool on Tyneside. Magpies have also suffered a huge blow after Callum Wilson will miss the last two games with a hamstring injury.
On the other hand, The Cityzens were left frustrated when going down 2-1 to Chelsea at Etihad Stadium in a dress-rehearsal for the Champions League final. Raheem Sterling put the Citizens in front but Sergio Aguero fluffed his lines with an awful penalty and Chelsea made them pay. Hakim Ziyech levelled for the visitors and Marcos Alonso grabbed a stoppage-time decider, with City harshly denied another spot-kick in between.
On Friday, they should be closer to full strength and will be chasing a 12th straight away win in this competition. It’s their first match since being crowned Premier League champions again after bitter rivals Man United had given them the title after losing to Leicester at home on Tuesday night, though the destination of the title was realistically sorted many months previously. City now have three league games to go before they face Chelsea in the Champions League Final.

Newcastle meet Man City having previously won just one of their last 26 Premier League matches against Man City (D4, L21), winning 2-1 in January 2019 despite going behind in the opening minute. Man City have won their last 11 away PL matches and a win in this match would see them break the all-time record in the top four tiers of English league football, currently held by Chelsea in 2008 and Manchester City themselves in 2017. It will be interesting to see how much Pep Guardiola decides to wrap his key men up in cotton wool now with nothing to play for, but we still expect them to be too much for Newcastle.
