Newcastle host Tottenham at the St. James’ Park (Newcastle) in the 30th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 2.05 pm (UK) on Sunday , April 4. Read our reasons for Newcastle vs Tottenham prediction and betting tips.
Newcastle fell further behind in their hopes for Premier League survival as relegation rivals Brighton pulled four points clear of Steve Bruce’s side with their crushing 3-0 victory on March 20. With only nine games left, Newcastle will now be looking over their shoulder to 18th-placed Fulham, who are only two points behind the Magpies – albeit having played an extra game. As for Tottenham, the Spurs followed up a limp defeat in the north London derby with an embarrassing Europa League exit to Dinamo Zagreb. However, Tottenham bounced back from a horrific week with a 2-0 win at Aston Villa. They are sat in 6th and Newcastle is a must-win game for them as they face Manchester Utd, Everton, and Man City next.
The Magpies appeared to lack any fight to win the game in Brighton, with supporter groups reacting angrily to the performance, which does raise the question as to whether the players are still playing for Bruce or whether he has completely lost the dressing room. The defeat has extended their poor run of form to just 2 wins in their last 18 Premier League games. Having to play seven top-ten teams in nine games remaining, Geordies face a huge battle to survive the drop.
Newcastle's tally of nine Premier League points in 2021 is the second worst to Southampton while away from home they have now failed to get on the scoresheet in seven of their last nine top-flight fixtures. But, right now, it seems like United's only chance of survival is the failure of others not the defiance of themselves. Bruce may have pledged to keep battling, but Newcastle aren’t playing fighting football at the moment. Of all their shortcomings this season, that is probably the most damning for Bruce who was once a byword for dogged reliability.
Meanwhile, at struggling Spurs, Mourinho accused his players of lacking professionalism while captain Hugo Lloris revealed deep issues in a TV interview. Lloris claimed fringe players were causing trouble, perhaps hinting at some of the stories leaked to the press about Mourinho’s training methods, and suggested the Europa League result was a consequence of deep-rooted problems at the club. Mourinho appeared to agree with that assessment, saying it was difficult to keep a harmonious dressing room in the modern game.
On the other hand, Mourinho, who made a number of changes for the Aston Villa match, was happy with the response of his side, which leaves them just three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea. Whatever has been going on behind the scene at Tottenham, now the international break is over, the Spurs take on Newcastle at St. James’ Park as they look to boost their own hopes and pile more pressure on the Magpies and Steve Bruce.

Newcastle meet Tottenham having previously lost 5 of their last 6 Premier League home games against Tottenham (W1), more than they had in their previous 26 against them in the top-flight (W13, D9, L4). Moreover, Tottenham won this exact fixture 3-1 under Jose Mourinho last season. It was the Portuguese manager’s first ever Premier League away win against Newcastle, having failed to win any of his first seven visits to St James’ Park (D3, L4) - we expect Spurs to continue that run and heap more misery on Steve Bruce and Newcastle.
