NEWCASTLE VS WEST BROM MATCH ANALYSIS
The Magpies aimed to build on a 2-1 win over Everton three rounds ago but ended losing 2-0 twice, in their back-to-back defeats against Southampton away and Chelsea at home. However, they recorded their second win on the road against Crystal Palace two weekends ago, and after the match against Aston Villa was postponed last week due to a coronavirus outbreak, they remain with 14 points in 13th place (W4-D2-L4). As for the Baggies, they are no longer one of the two Premier League sides not to have recorded a win yet in this campaign – the honor goes to Sheffield Utd. After that minimal but precious win, West Brom returned to the losing ways against Crystal Palace at home (1-5) and remain in the relegation zone at 19th with 6 points (W1, D3, L7).
Newcastle took a couple of steps back after 2-0 defeats to the Saints and Chelsea in rounds 8 and 9. Defensive solidity had been a key facet of Newcastle's previous two Premier League campaigns, so they were glad to find a formula that worked so well against Wolves and Everton in their last match against the Eagles before their postponed fixture against Villa.
The absence of their leading scorer, Callum Wilson, was too costly for the Magpies in two consecutive matches they lost, but the impact on his return was immediate as he scored and assisted for Joelinton in the dying minutes of the match. Callum Wilson has been now directly involved in nine goals in nine Premier League appearances for the club (seven goals, two assists). He and resurrected Joelinton will hope to torment West Brom’s shaky defense just like they did against the Eagles.
West Brom, on the other hand, do not seem competitive enough at this level, and given their sluggish start to the season, they will have to improve considerably to avoid the immediate return to the second division. On November 2, they lost to fellow newcomers Fulham (2-0) and replaced them in the relegation zone, where they still remain, even after their first win of the campaign. Coming into this weekend’s games, they have conceded most Premier League goals this season (23) after their thrashing at the hands of Crystal Palace.
Against the Eagles, the capital side took advantage of the controversial dismissal of Matheus Pereira to win convincingly at the Hawthorns. Prior to that, Albion had been the better side, but holding out for almost an hour with 10 men proved impossible, and Zaha sparked a Palace goal-fest. Bilic can take some heart from the way his side played with 11 men but will be worried by the manner in which they utterly capitulated with 10.

These two sides most recently met in the FA Cup tie in March 2020, which was won by Newcastle (2-3). It was their 22nd match since 2005 and the Magpies have an upper hand with 10 wins to West Brom’s 6.
Newcastle United are eyeing their first back-to-back wins of the season with Callum Willson back in business and Joelinton, whose late exploits against Palace saw the striker end a run of 16 games without a Premier League goal or assist. For Newcastle, Fraser, Dummett, Gayle, and goalkeeper Dubravka remain in the recovery room.
As for West Brom, Matheus Pereira, who created 9 chances against Sheffield Utd, the most by a player in a single Premier League game so far this season, misses the Newcastle game through suspension.
In their last meeting at St. James’ Park in April 2018, the Baggies emerged triumphant, but they will have to dig deep to get something from the trip to Newcastle this time around.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
