NEWPORT VS BRIGHTON MATCH ANALYSIS
The Exiles come into this tie on the back of a four-game run without a win in League Two (D2, L2) and after a week’s rest as their match against Southend was postponed due to a frozen pitch. However, they are only a single point behind league leaders Carlisle Utd and are well-positioned to mount a serious promotion push. The Seagulls, on the other hand, played out a 3-3 draw with Wolverhampton in their last league match, with the team extending their winless run in the Premier League to eight games. Brighton, managed by former Swansea boss Graham Potter, are 16th in the Premier League, only three points above the bottom three.
Newport have become feared FA Cup giant-killers in recent years with marquee wins over then Championship club Leeds United, Middlesbrough, and former Premier League champions Leicester City. Michael Flynn's side also took Tottenham to a replay at Wembley and in 2019 reached the fifth round before falling to Manchester City. Flynn is delighted Newport will again figure in a high-profile game that will put the club on the map again and bring another Premier League club to Rodney Parade. Flynn is also looking forward to welcoming Brighton defender and one of the Seagull’s best players this season, Ben White back to Newport. The Exiles are doing well in League Two. They are determined to secure promotion to League One, and, no doubt, that is their top objective this season. That’s why Michael Flynn may be tempted to use the FA Cup game to rest several first-team regulars after his side had beaten Leyton Orient and Salford City to reach this stage.
As for Brighton, the draw against Wolves means that Brighton are still hovering just above the relegation zone. Dunk’s header gave Brighton a deserving point and meant that for now at least, they could shrug off some unpleasant statistics. They are winless in 13 home league matches, and in their last eight at any venue. Nobody has drawn more games and it means they remain plausible relegation candidates. But their performance after the break, and even in some phases of the first half, showed refreshing vigor and lifted a little of the pressure gathering around their manager, Graham Potter. In fairness, it could be said that their disappointing results in this campaign have not been a true reflection of their performances. Brighton lost 0-1 to Sheffield Wed at this stage last season and will look to make a longer run this time around.

Historically, Brighton have played Newport 66 times and this is their fourth FA Cup meeting, but have only faced the Welsh side once since 1966. That one occasion was in August 2013, when the Exiles won a League Cup tie 3-1 at the Amex Stadium.
Newport County have reached at least the FA Cup R4 in two of the last three seasons, though they were eliminated at this stage last season by Millwall (0-3). On the other hand, Brighton were knocked out at this stage last season by a side from a lower division, but they’ve not been eliminated from consecutive FA Cup games against lower-ranked sides since 1994/95 and 1997/98.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
