Match between Nîmes and Brest is in danger of becoming the 2nd game of the opening Ligue 1 weekend to be called off because of the COVID-19 outbreak. Nolan Roux, Anthony Briançon, Clément Depres, and Amjhad Nazih from home team had positive tests in the last week ahead of game planned to play at the Stade des Costieres on Sunday.
Last week was very hard for Nimes' side that was eager to start the league with a positive result on the pitch. The situation among the players and staff is complicated, admitted the director of operations, Laurent Tourreau, during the media session. The Crocodiles reported four positive cases for the coronavirus, and players are in isolation at home.
Last Friday, five days after playing against Marseille in friendly first cases were detected and it is the obvious virus is indeed circulating within the team. For certain Nimes will be weakened for the next game because of the loss of players and difficulties to have perfect training preparation for the premiere match of the new season.
On the other side, Nimes board and first-team coach Jérôme Arpinon don’t want to postpone the match, because as he said, they have adapted to injury and suspension problems through every season. It is still unclear if Nimes will have their supporters on the stands after the outbreak happened. The first plan was to give fans a chance to help their players but now 4300 supporters must wait for the decision of Ligue 1 officials.
Nimes was more than fortunate not to drop to Ligue 2 in the last season so they now want perfect start and to show how capable they are in match with the team that is more than beatable. A good start is a must for them on the opening weekend besides all the off-pitch problems.
In the game vs Marseille, they were more than decent with an interesting, high-pressing play and a few clear chances towards Steve Mandanda's goal. They also announced the transfer of Birger Meling, left-back who won the Norwegian championship with Rosenborg in 2017 and 2018 and have 11 caps for the Norwegian National Team.
In the 2019/20 season, Brest had finished in the 14th position of the Ligue 1 table with 34 points, seven more than Nimes. In this very competitive league, they showed that they are tough to beat with 8 wins and 10 draws and losses. They want to be better in the new season but must find a way to better attacking performances.
Brest averaged less than one goal per match in the last ten Ligue 1 games. They signed several players that can help in a bigger roster for the next season and more competition for starting lineup. Heriberto Tavares had a good spell in Boavista in the last season and could help in attack, Franck Honoraut was great potential but in recent years his goalscoring record is below average due to injuries and limited playing time.
They have few players out for the next match, new signing central defender Christophe Hérelle is positive for coronavirus and will not travel to Nîmes. This is a real problem for a coach Olivier Dall'Oglio, who is already without Denys Bain, the victim of a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligaments of the left knee, in mid-July. That means they must reshuffle the backline so Brendan Chardonnet and Jean-Kévin Duverne will be in the contention for the start.

Both teams had problems in attack and better defense gained Brest better results and more points in the final standings. Nimes and Brest are not fast starters into the season and their record in the premiere rounds that show. It would be a good result for both teams that this match could end in a draw and under 2,5 goals is our preferable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
