After failing to beat Serbia in play-offs for the EURO Norway must turn to a new UNL campaign and next opponent, Romania, who also had bad memories after the defeat vs Iceland.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic scored twice to send Serbia into the European Championship play-off finals with a 2-1 extra-time win over Norway, meaning Erling Haaland will not be at next summer's EURO. Serbia kept Borussia Dortmund forward quiet and found, at last, their match-winner in Lazio midfielder Milinkovic-Savic, who had not previously scored for the national team.
He scored from close range after a free-kick into the penalty area in the 82nd minute, after a clever assist from Aleksandar Mitrović, before Norway leveled through Mathias Normann's angled low shot with two minutes to go. But an awesome piece of skill won the game for Serbia in the first-half of extra-time, as Milinkovic-Savic tricked Norway goalkeeper Rune Jarstein with a chip from the edge of the six-yard box after an assist from Dušan Tadić.
Norwegians looked like a team that spent little time together, for most of the game suffered to provide any spark, even from set-pieces and the attacking duo Haaland – Serlot were unable to create anything from individual quality.
The Norwegians suffered a 2-1 loss to Austria in their opener, with the team rolling over Northern Ireland 5-1 in their second group game. The Scandinavians are without big competitions for a long time and loss vs Serbia will surely be a huge blow to team spirit and atmosphere. It is expected that coach Lagerback makes huge changes for the next match after most of the players were 120 minutes on the pitch on Thursday.
Romania lost the play-off match for EURO 2020 against Iceland in Reykjavik. The hosts won 2-1 with two goals scored by their playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson. Sigurdsson opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a fine low finish from outside the penalty area and added his second to put Iceland in command at the break. Alexandru Maxim scored Romania's only goal from a penalty. Iceland will play against Hungary in the play-off final in November after Hungary beat Bulgaria 3-1 in Sofia.
The stake was high for the team managed by Mirel Radoi, as Romania wanted to play in the tournament, for which Bucharest will be one of the hosts. Romania’s most recent international tournament was EURO 2016, where it didn’t move past the group stage. So, it was a big disappointment after a deserved defeat with a team that on paper is not more valuable than them.
The Romanian national football team's coach Mirel Radoi said in the press conference after the defeat with Iceland on Thursday evening that the result of the match vs Iceland is a fair one and that his team was far worse than expected.
The Romanians must turn quickly to their next opponent in the new UNL campaign, they did well to beat Austria 3-2 on the road in their second group match, after a 1-1 with Northern Ireland, so they are leaders of the B1 group after two matches.

Both teams have problems in the defense and self-confidence is on the low levels after big defeats so both teams to score is the most promising option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
