NORWICH VS BARNSLEY MATCH ANALYSIS
Daniel Farke's side is looking to get back to winning ways in 2021 as Norwich lost 1-0 to Watford on Boxing Day at the Vicarage Road and disappointingly drew 1-1 with QPR on Tuesday. The two games without a win mean that Brentford has now closed the gap on Norwich at the top of the Championship table to three points as the Canaries remain top of the league with 44 points. The visitors are sitting in 8th place with 34 points, two points below the top-six, and are heading into this weekend’s game on the back of two identical 2-1 wins against Huddersfield at home and Rotherham away.
Norwich remain safe at top of the table for the time being even though their defeat to the Hornets ended their five-game winning run. The Canaries are determined to return to the Premier League and will stick to their attacking style of play when they host Barnsley next. Finland attacker Pukki looks unstoppable at the moment, and he is likely to prove a handful on Saturday afternoon. They will be without Byram, Hernandez, Idah, Krul, and Mumba, who are all sidelined with injuries.
As for their midweek share of points with QPR, the Canaries were too wasteful as they threw away the chance to go seven points clear at the top. After an entertaining but goalless first half, Norwich spurned chance after chance during a dominant second period. They finally found the net with their 20th attempt, as Teemu Pukki converted a penalty, only to lose the maximum points after QPR was awarded a penalty of their own.
Barnsley, on the other hand, have started this new campaign in the same vein after miraculously escaping the relegation on the final day of the last season. They had been sitting near the relegation zone early in the campaign but have dramatically improved their form since then. The Tykes were without a win in their first seven matches, but their turnaround has been remarkable. In their next 15 matches, they have won 10 and lost only 5 and got really close to play-off berths.
In their second win in the span of three days, the Tykes saw off a Rotherham fightback to claim the South Yorkshire derby and a fifth win in six matches. Barnsley were ruthless in attack as moments of precision and class from Mowatt and Woodrow opened up the hosts twice in the first 15 minutes. The Millers improved after the break and former Barnsley loanee Smith got one goal back, but Barnsley's defence nullified the home threat as a third Yorkshire derby win of the month lifted Valerien Ismael's side up to eighth.

Norwich City’s promotion push has hit a slight snag with the ‘Canaries’ recording two consecutive winless matches (D1, L1), but they meet favourable historical opponents here having last lost a competitive home match against Barnsley back in 1937 (W10, D7 since). The Canaries have done well, but with the January transfer window about to open, they will have to fend off any interest in their star players Buendia, Max Aarons, and Todd Cantwell.
On the other hand, It looks like Valerien Ismael has stadied the ship at Barnsleyas they have now gone from relegation candidates to play-off hopefuls. Barnsley are currently on their joint-best Championship campaign since 2011/12. With three wins from their last four road trips (L1), the Tykes have been steadily improving, but an average of just 1.18 goals scored per away league game is clear mid-table form.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
