After missing the play-offs on a crazy final day in the Championship last season, Forest's start of the new campaign has been unexpected and disappointing. After failing to win consecutive ten matches in all competitions, losing the six in a row, Notts Forest parted ways with boss Lamouchi, being now the first manager in the Championship to leave his post this season, and replaced him with experienced Chris Hughton. They immidiatelly bounced back in the following game in the 5th week as Joe Lolley's injury-time strike earned them victory over Blackburn Rovers as new boss's first game in charge brought a dramatic win at Ewood Park. They were unable to record another three points next as Rotherham hang on for a point (1-1) in Chris Hughton's first home game in charge of Forest on Tuesday.
As for the Rams, they were considered one of the play-off candidates before the season started, but their negative run of three defeats on the trot at the beginning of the campaign did not bide well for Phillip Cocu’s side’s ambitions. Against the Canaries in the fourth round they recorded their first win, courtesy of Wayne Rooney's sublime late free-kick to pick up their first three points of the Championship season, but failed to back it up in the next match against Watford. It was an error-strewn affair, without even a shot on target until the 74th minute. In midweek, Juninho Bacuna's 53rd-minute goal was enough to give Huddersfield all three points and pile more pressure on Derby boss Phillip Cocu. The result leaves the Rams dangerously close to relegation zone with captain Wayne Rooney still out for another two games as he self-isolates.
