Olympiakos will try to take advantage of playing at his Georgios Karaiskaki Stadium in the first leg of the playoff round against Slovakian champions Slovan Bratislava. Read our Olympiakos Pireus vs Slovan Bratislava prediction and betting tips.
Olympiakos failed to qualify for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League and now they must find a way to progress in the UEL. They were beaten by Bulgarian champions Ludogorets after penalties. In both games, Olympiakos failed to score from good occasions in front of a rival's goal, and on the other side, some poor defensive decisions cost them too much. They are still a good team with great coach Pedro Martins but they need to raise the level of the performances if they want to beat decent Slovan.
They must recover mentally for this game as the Greek fans will give them endless support in the first match. A win in this game should take the pressure off before traveling away with a poor result as that was in the case against Ludogorets. That 1-1 home draw hurt their confidence and momentum and turned media to be negative before the second leg. Also, Pedro Martins will probably switch to 4-3-3 trying to incorporate new signing Rony Lopes. This match will also be a debut for Czech international goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik. Problems could be found in the defense because both Semedo and Cisse are trying to reach agreements with foreign clubs, so Sokratis and Markovic could start and they didn’t play together. Mady Camara, Andreas Bouchalakis, and Yann M’Vila will give support to lonesome striker Yussef El Arabi with two speedy wingers on both sides.
Olympiakos: Vaclik; Lala, Sokratis, Marković, Reabciuk; M'Vila, Camara, Bouchalakis, Onyekuru, El Arabi, Lopes
Slovan is the most dominant Slovakian team in recent years but they are not satisfied with how they play in the European competitions. After claiming another Fortuna Liga title, Slovan Bratislava qualified for the first round of the Champions League qualifiers and they had significant problems with Irish side Shamrock Rovers. Despite a comfortable 2-0 victory at home, Slovan had to grab a late goal to escape to the next round after a 2-1 loss in Ireland. It was no big surprise when they failed to progress against Swiss Young Boys. After no scoring draw in Bratislava, they had the lead in Bern but Swiss champions turn the score around for the final 3-2 aggregate.
In the qualifiers for the Europe League, they were lucky in the draw because two matches against Gibraltar’s best team Lincoln Red Imps were easy. After a comfortable 1-3 victory away it was clear that Slovan will be on the verge of jumping in the group phase of the UEL. The next draw was harsh on them, as Olympiakos is a big favorite and despite the decent quality Slovan has in their roster, they are underdogs here. Coach Vladimir Weiss will have his son in the starting lineup but they will also have problems at the left side as left-backs Lucas Lovat and Vernon De Marco are out because of injuries.
Slovan Bratislava: Chovan; Pauschek, Kashia, Krizan, Bozhikov; Kankava, De Kamps; Ratao, Weiss, Zmrhal; Henty

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
