Parma and Fiorentina had a rough start to the season and their luck could change when they meet at Ennio Tardini on Saturday night.
Parma played good football in the last season but wanted a coaching change to try to be more attractive to fans and continuity in the top tier of the Seria A table. They appointed charismatic Fabio Liverani who did a very good job at relegated Lecce with the team that lacked the individual quality to stay in the league. Liverani changed playing philosophy, formation, almost everything and now they need some time to adapt to his demands, gel, and build new team chemistry that can push them to success.
The start of the season wasn't good but Parma made some significant improvements in the last games and by lack of luck and some individual errors didn't get what they deserved on the pitch. In the last league game, Parma earned a valuable draw vs Inter but Fabio Liverani and his players have regrets at not winning against Inter after taking a 2-0 lead. Gervinho’s brace gave them a two-goal advantage, but Marcelo Brozovic’s deflected effort and a last-gasp Ivan Perisic header on a corner sealed a 2-2 draw.
Parma was again decimated by COVID-19 and injuries, with another four players that weren't available just 24 hours before the game. They played with heart and sacrifice and the difficulties over the last month and a half meant they were unable to train together with any sense of consistency. They are hoping that period will pass and allow them to do some genuine work in the following months.
Leonardo Spinazzola caught the Fiorentina defense napping and Pedro Rodriguez finished a well-worked team goal as Roma emerged 2-0 winners in their encounter. The Giallorossi had some early scares, but after Spinazzola made the most of a long ball to break the deadlock, it was relatively easy for Paulo Fonseca’s men. Pedro completed the victory by tapping in at the back post from a Henrikh Mkhitaryan assist. Fiorentina could be pleased with a final result at the end because Bartlomiej Dragowski kept the scoreline down with some fine saves in the Viola goal.
Fiorentina has struggled so far this season with two wins, a draw, and three defeats. According to the media outlets in Italy, coach Beppe Iachini could well be axed regardless of the result against Parma this weekend. They are considering many options including Maurizio Sarri, Walter Mazzarri, or even the return of Vincenzo Montella. The hot favorite to take over is Sarri, who lives near Florence and would relish working with Jose Callejon again after his time at Napoli.
He is in advanced negotiations to terminate his contract with Juventus by mutual consent, which would free him to take the job. Other candidates include former Torino and Napoli boss Mazzarri, or even the improbable return of Montella. Iachini had been brought in to replace Montella in December 2019, as he was sacked for the second time.
There are several reports of player unrest because of the Iachini old-fashioned coaching style and lack of minutes for some players that wanted a major role in Viola shirt in this season. Fiorentina started brightly but with the current roster, they must have better results to achieve at least the minimum requirements, place in the top tier of the table.

This should be a very strange game with both teams incapable to find consistency from the start of the season. They must push for the better places in the standings, and it could be a very interesting match where both teams to score is a fine betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
