Parma is desperate for points, but Sampdoria has four victories from nine away games so far this season.
Roberto D’Aversa picked up his first point since returning to the Ennio Tardini two weeks ago and seeks his first victory in his second spell at Parma. He was frustrated by the last-gasp Lazio winner in the cup game played on Thursday. ‘We were preparing for extra time.’ The Coppa Italia Round of 16 was in the balance, as Valentin Mihaila canceled out the Marco Parolo opener, but Vedat Muriqi’s header went in off the upright and goalkeeper Simone Colombi. “It was certainly a good performance and we were preparing for extra time, so it’s a pity we couldn’t bring home a positive result,” D’Aversa told media.
The hosts have five players out of action, including their defensive leader Bruno Alves. “I could not have asked the lads for more. I made the choices I had to this evening, because those who stayed behind had physical problems, so it was not just a planned squad rotation. The important thing is that those who did play represented Parma very well. We’ve got to make fewer errors in the future, otherwise, we do risk letting results slip.”
Parma (4-3-3): Sepe; Conti, Iacoponi, Gagliolo, Giu Pezzella; Hernani, Brugman, Kurtic; Kucka, Cornelius, Gervinho
Suspended: none
Injured: Balogh, Valenti, Nicolussi Caviglia, Bruno Alves, Osorio, Laurini, Karamoh
The substitutions made the difference after Rodrigo De Paul’s opener, as Antonio Candreva converted the penalty with a Panenka chip and debutant Ernesto Torregrossa rose to meet Tommaso Augello’s cross for a 2-1 Sampdoria victory at the last weekend. Claudio Ranieri explained his changes to turn the game around against Udinese. “I saw Udinese were controlling it too much, so the only option was to throw on two fresh strikers and mirror their tactical set-up. I had told the four defenders to stay back and not concede. When we moved to three at the back, I told them to stay there, so we’d push up more with the wing-backs.”
Torregrossa scored on his debut and can provide some of the aerial power Samp has been lacking. “With Torregrossa, Quagliarella, Keita Balde, and when he’s fit Manolo Gabbiadini, we have a lot of different attacking options, all of them with a great deal of quality. It’s all about ensuring balance, but Torregrossa can work with any of the other forwards, so he allows me to do different things. I have to say, it feels as if he’s always been with us, he settled in straight away. Torregrossa is this lovely, smiling, happy fellow and I already liked him as a player, but you need a good person behind it too, and he fulfills that.” Sampdoria has Manolo Gabbiadini and Alex Ferrari on the sidelines due to injuries, but Claudio Ranieri can rely on the ever-green Fabio Quagliarella to start upfront.
Sampdoria (4-4-1-1): Audero; Bereszynski, Yoshida, Colley, Augello; Candreva, Thorsby, Ekdal, Jankto; Verre; Quagliarella
Suspended: none
Injured: Gabbiadini, A Ferrari

Parma is without a win in the last nine Serie A games, while Sampdoria has conceded at least one goal in each one of the last 14 League games. Both teams to score looks like a decent betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
