Poland meet Slovakia at the Gazprom Arena (Saint Petersburg) in the EURO 2020 Group E Round 1 match and the game kicks off at 5 pm (UK) on Monday, June 14. Read our reason for Poland vs Slovakia prediction and betting tips.
LOW-SCORING AFFAIR ON CARDS IN RUSSIA
Taking part in their fourth European Championship on the bounce, Poland will fancy their chances of progressing out of a wide-open Group E. However, after finishing last in their group in both the 2008 and 2012 edition, and with winning just once in 2021 so far (D3, L1), the Poles will need to reinvent themselves if they’re to recreate their 2016 heroics of reaching the quarterfinals. On theother hand, Slovakia, the dark horses to emerge from Group E in qualifying, have progressed to the ‘round of 16’ stage in both of their previous major tournament appearances - the 2010 World Cup & Euro 2016. In both, the ‘Falcons’ failed to win their opening games, so a slow start again here may not be terminal.
POLAND TO SCRAPE OPENING ENCOUNTER
Poland have often been a nation that have seamlessly qualified for tournaments, but they have never really made their impression count at the main tournament itself. Time is running out for Robert Lewandowski to make his mark at a tournament, and this could be his opportunity after an outstanding season with Bayern Munich.
Poland won eight from ten games in qualifying, while they suffered just one defeat. Defensively, they were strong, as they conceded just five goals. That strong defensive ability has been missing in recent games though, as they have conceded five goals in their last three. The biggest question now is whether the squad is capable of providing service to their superstar.
A look at Poland’s betting odds: The stakes for both nations are big on the opening night, and it will be difficult to separate the sides. However, a moment of magic from Robert Lewandowski could be the difference between the nations, so we back Poland to win to nil.
DON’T EXPECT FIREWORKS FROM SLOVAKIA
Slovakia needed to take the harder route to the EUROs, after they finished third in Group E of qualifying. They finished the group with 13 points, which was just one fewer than Wales. They lost three games during qualification, and conceded eleven goals. However, in the playoffs they showed their character, as they beat the Republic of Ireland on penalties, before beating Northern Ireland 2-1 after extra time. Juraj Kucka remains a key figure in the side, but there isn’t a lot of top talents to shout about.
Marek Hamsik’s career is tailing off at Goteborg in Sweden after a spell in China, and he is unlikely to haul his team off the foot of Group E. The former Napoli man is almost 34, and the majority of the Slovak squad are on the wrong side of 30, so they may well find life difficult on Monday night. Sousa has promised that his team will attack from the outset, but Slovakia pack midfield in a 4-5-1 formation and will set up defensively from the start.
A look at Slovakia’s betting odds: Poland may need to wait until the dying embers to snatch victory, so the half-time/full-time bet appeals at an attractive price. Our second tip of the day is: HT/FT – Draw/Poland win

The last three meetings between the pair have all featured less than 2.5 goals, and that trend should continue this week. Poland’s record at the European Championship also suggests that we could be in for a low-scoring game on Monday. The Eagles have never scored more than one goal in their 11 games at the tournament. Similarly, none of their 11 matches in the competition have ever produced more than two goals, and Slovakia’s record on the road adds further fuel to the fire.
Final BettingKick’s Poland vs Slovakia prediction is: Under 2.5 goals

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
