Porto host Chelsea at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium (Seville, Spain) in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Wednesday, April 7. Read our reasons for Porto vs Chelsea prediction and betting tips.
This last-eight showdown will take place in Spain, eliminating home advantage for both clubs. Having conquered Atletico Madrid, the Blues are now among the favorites to go all the way. Chelsea have tasted defeat for the first time in 15 games under Tuchel against West Brom in the PL at the weekend, picking up eight wins and four draws along the way. Meanwhile, Porto eliminated Juventus in the previous round - despite losing the second leg 3-2, Sergio Conceicao’s men eventually progressed on away goals, with a 4-4 aggregate draw. The Dragons have also lost just two of their 25 Liga NOS matches this season. A 19-game unbeaten streak has filled the team with heaps of belief, but it is difficult to imagine Porto dispatching Chelsea over two legs.
Porto were second best behind Man City in their group and did the double over Olympiacos and Marseille. The Dragons then took advantage of an early defensive howler by Juve to shade a 2-1 victory in Portugal. Sergio Oliveira gave them a surprise lead in Turin, but the tide looked to have turned when Mehdi Taremi was sent off in between a Federico Chiesa brace. However, Oliveira popped up again in extra-time and Porto progressed via the away goals rule despite Adrien Rabiot setting up a tense finish.
On the other hand, the Portuguese side have not won a last-eight tie since claiming their second European Cup under future Chelsea manager José Mourinho 17 years ago and, though they are in this stage for the second time in three seasons, will need no reminding that their last quarter-final ended in a heavy defeat against English opposition to make it three eliminations out of three at this stage by Premier League sides.
As for Chelsea, not a lot, if anything at all, has gone wrong for Chelsea since Thomas Tuchel took the reigns from Frank Lampard in late January. The Blues have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League (though this is their first appearance at this stage since 2014), the semi-finals of the FA Cup, and have also propelled themselves firmly back into the race for a top-four finish this season.
Everything has been pretty rosy for Chelsea so far but the true test will be to see how they respond to Saturday’s 5-2 defeat in the Premier League. Can it derail their season? At the moment, the Blues don’t look like conceding another five goals anytime soon, let alone losing. They have looked a much more accomplished outfit since Tuchel took charge and that was illustrated in two games against Atletico. Tuchel has helped to make this talented team much more compact and that should stand them in good stead again here.

Porto meet Chelsea having previously lost five of their eight UEFA Champions League games against the Blues (W2, D1), while this will be only the second knock-out tie between Chelsea and Porto in the Champions League, with the Blues progressing 3-2 on aggregate during the Last 16 of the 2006/07 campaign.
Chelsea are 14 matches unbeaten under Thomas Tuchel, while Porto impressed after stunning Juventus, though hopes of a first last-four appearance since winning the competition under José Mourinho 17 years ago are dented by suspensions to key pair Mehdi Taremi and Sérgio Oliveira. Tuchel has transformed his side into a formidable force, so we expect Chelsea to advance here and the BettingKick’s Porto vs Chelsea prediction is: Chelsea win
