Porto hosts Juventus as the Champions League returns after winter break.
Porto is slumping, with the draws in four straight across all competitions. They started the season brightly but things have darkened around the Stadio do Dragao. Sporting holds an eight-point lead in the Primeira Liga, the team’s workhorses like Sergio Oliveira and Mehdi Taremi are showing the signs of fatigue of a congested schedule, and the Portistas‘ chances of advancing in Europe look less-than-great. A 2-2 draw with last-place Boavista on Sunday didn’t generate any confidence for Conceicao’s group, though the emergence of his young son Francisco in the first team is a lone bright spot in recent weeks.
Sergio Conceicao has several absentees through injury to deal with, as full-backs Nanu and Zaidi Sanusi have both spent time on the sidelines recently and are joined by midfielder Otavio, who remains out of contention with a muscle injury. Jesus Corona returned from suspension at the weekend and will keep a starting place in the Porto midfield, alongside Mateus Uribe. Luis Diaz could switch to the left-wing, with the forward duo Mehdi Taremi and Moussa Marega leading the line once again - they have registered a combined 15 goals and 10 assists in the league so far this season.
Porto: Marchesin; Manafa, Mbemba, Pepe, Sarr; Corona, Oliviera, Uribe; Diaz, Marega, Taremi
Andrea Pirlo believes the penalty incident was ‘dubious’ after defeating Napoli. ‘Some incidents are treated differently when against Juventus.’ The Bianconeri suffered their second Serie A defeat of 2021, after falling to Inter, it was another big game at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Lorenzo Insigne missed a penalty against Juve in the Supercoppa last month, but this time he converted into the roof of the net following Giorgio Chiellini’s flailing arm in Amir Rrahmani’s face. “We never allowed a shot on goal, we lost due to a dubious incident, but it’s a pity we didn’t get the win. We put in the performance that we needed to, but not the result that we deserved,” the coach told the media. “We moved the ball around, but not quickly enough, so Napoli were able to get into position. In the second half, we were more enterprising, created more chances, but didn’t get the goal.”
Pirlo was not happy with the final result but looked calm and pleased about the performance. “It’s natural when playing this many games that we lack a bit of sharpness, but it was a good performance and the only thing we were missing was a goal. There’s no guarantee the team that scores the most goals then wins the Scudetto. We create plenty of chances, the Napoli goalkeeper was Man of the Match, so I can’t complain about my strikers today. We could be 10 points off the top with a game in hand, but it’s still only February and if we keep playing at this level, we’ll do well. If we put in this type of performance and score goals, then I am sure we’ll get the results we want.”
Juventus full-back Juan Cuadrado picked up a muscle injury during Saturday's defeat to Napoli and was replaced during the half-time break, so will be out of action for at least a week. Both returning to their former club, Danilo should start on the right of a back four, with Alex Sandro on the left. Arthur, Paulo Dybala, and Aaron Ramsey are also likely to miss the trip to Portugal, but influential center-back Leonardo Bonucci could start alongside either Matthijs de Ligt or long-time defensive partner Giorgio Chiellini.
Juventus: Szczesny; Danilo, Bonucci, De Ligt, Alex Sandro; Chiesa, Bentancur, Rabiot, McKennie; Ronaldo, Morata

Both teams failed to achieve goals in the domestic competitions and the UEFA Champions League performances could give them a confidence boost for the rest of the season. Juventus is a favorite here and an away win is our most preferable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
