Portugal meet Germany at the Allianz Arena (Munich) in the EURO 2020 Group F Round 2 match and the game kicks off at 5 pm (UK) on Saturday, June 19. Read our reason for Portugal vs Germany prediction and betting tips.
HOLDERS VALUE FOR MUNICH WIN
Portugal ran out 3-0 winners over Hungary on Wednesday but only scored their first goal in the 84th-minute while Germany lost their opening game at a European Championships for the first time ever after their 1-0 loss to France. This is the first meeting between the two sides since the 2014 World Cup when Germany ran out 4-0 winners thanks to a Thomas Muller hat-trick en route to winning the tournament. A repeat scoreline is highly unlikely if Germany's performance against France is anything to go by. There was a period in the second half where they pressed at France but aside from Serge Gnabry's mis-hit effort they really struggled to create any meaningful chances.
CRISTIANO RONALDO MAN ON A MISSION
Portugal took a long time to wear down Hungary in Budapest, with Diogo Jota and Bruno Fernandes having shots saved and Cristiano Ronaldo guilty of a glaring miss. There was more than a hint of good fortune about their opener as well, with Raphael Guerreiro’s shot taking a wicked deflection.Ronaldo then clinically converted a penalty and added a sublime third in the closing stages to put the defending champions in fine spirits at the final whistle.
Ronaldo thus became the record scorer in European Championship history as his late double took him to 11 overall, now clear of Michel Platini on nine. Portugal will be eager to equal their efforts of 2016 when winning the Euros, but they have an ageing squad and one that will struggle to replicate the performances of five years ago. This is likely to be Cristiano Ronaldo’s final Euros, so the Juventus attacker will want to sign off in style.
TIP #1: Liverpool star Jota also looked lively without getting his due reward and for him to net at any time appeals from the Portugal vs Germany odds.
TOUGH TIMES FOR GERMANY
Germany played their part in an intriguing clash with France, which was ultimately decided by a Mats Hummels own goal on 20 minutes. Thomas Muller, Ilkay Gundogan and Serge Gnabry did their best to level things up as Die Mannschaft huffed and puffed in search of an equaliser. However, they were grateful for two tight offside decisions stopping Les Bleus from extending their advantage on the break.
We weren’t impressed by Germany, though, as the World Cup flops struggled to create clear-cut chances and often seemed short of pace compared to Les Bleus. Germany has been in better shape, there is no denying that, but the team will want to leave their recent worries at the door and concentrate, firstly, on getting out of this group. They know the dangers associated with defeat here in such a competitive pool, and that will ramp up the pressure on an already battle-weary squad.
TIP #2: This promises to be a tight tussle but for the holders to shade it by any one-goal margin stands out from Portugal vs Germany odds.

The pressure is on Germany to chase victory when facing Portugal in Euro 2020 Group F and that could play into the hands of the holders. Die Mannschaft looked vulnerable on the break versus France and their next opponents are not short of counter-attacking pace either. We reckon an away win in Munich is tempting enough to complete our Portugal vs Germany prediction.
Final BettingKick’s Portugal vs Germany prediction is: Portugal to win.
