Portugal host Spain when two national teams lock horns in a friendly at Estadio Jose Alvalade (Lisbon) on Wednesday, October 7 and the game kicks off at 7.45pm (UK).
MATCH PREVIEW
The Iberian neighbours drew in their last two match-ups and have not met since highly amuzsing 3-3 draw in the group stage of the 2018 World Cup. Now, the two heavyweights face each other before their respective UEFA Nations League campaigns continue in the days ahead. It will be a good test of strengths for both national teams before they play the third round matches in the UEFA Nations League. Portugal travel to France for their match-up with joint-group leaders in League A Group 3, while Spain host last-placed Switzerland next in their League A Group 4 tie.
MATCH ANALYSIS
Portugal began their defense of their UEFA Nations League crown in perfect fashion with dominant victories over Croatia (4-1) and Sweden (0-2) in Group A3 last month. The reigning European Champions were defeated only once on their way to the group stages of next year's European Championships - a 2-1 loss against Ukraine - which was the first time that Portugal had been defeated since being knocked out of the World Cup by Uruguay two years ago. Meanwhile, they are undefeated in their last five friendlies, with their most recent friendly game ending in a 3-1 win over Scotland in October 2018, and coach Santos has led his men to nine wins from their last 10 in all competitions.
Carvalho, Ruben Semedo and Rafa Silva ar recalled for the squad, and Daniel Podence awaits his national debut for Portugal. Because of the Covid-19 outbreak in Napoli, Mario Rui will give his place to Nuno Sequeira from Braga, who is another debutant in the team. For now, Portugal will want to gain the upper hand over Spain as they meet in a friendly for the first time since 2010, when the Nations League holders left the Spaniards in their tracks with a 4-0 victory.
As their Wednesday's opponents, Spain tops their Nations League Group 4 following a 1-1 draw with Germany and a convincing 4-0 victory over Ukraine in September, with Luis Enrique's side on the right path to qualify for the finals after finishing one point behind England in the 2018-19 season. The three-time European champions also qualified for next summer's tournament with no trouble whatsoever, finishing top of the Group F having won eight and drawn two of their ten qualifying matches.
As for the squad, Wolves' Adama Traore and Dani Ceballos from Arsenal have been given the calls, while Barcelona's Jordi Alba and another defender, Dani Carvajal are out with injuries. On the other hand, teenage prodigy from Barcelona Ansu Fati, who has had an impressive start in Barca's shirt in new La Liga campaign with three goals and assists from the first three rounds, has a chance to become the Spain's youngest-ever goal-scorer at the age of 17.

Both sides may be excused for not fielding their strongest eleven for this match, with the upcoming Nations League fixtures obviously taking priority for both. However, we can expect a number of up-and-coming players and new faces who will relishing to get some minutes on the pitch here. Wednesday's clash is poised to be a tight affair, and my prediction will be: Under 2.5 goals.

Wyatt grew up in the suburbs of London and he is a big Chelsea fan. As a young boy, he found his love for football, which became an obsession, but when he tried playing it he soon realized that he just wasn't talented enough. Bearing that in mind, Wyatt decided to learn everything there is to know about all the teams and players, with special focus on Premier League and Championship . Wyatt has a big affection for Championship and he is well versed in all the teams and knows their advantages and weak spots very well. He is an economist, and being one makes him good with numbers and also good with the odds. His specialty are BTTS matches.
