Preston North End and Swansea get their seasons going on Saturday, 12 September at Deepdale Stadium (Preston) and the game kicks off at 3pm (UK).
Preston are by all means what you may consider a safe club. They have a good enough squad so that there won't be any relegation scares, and financially, they have no debts off the pitch that could destabilize the club. It remains to be seen if they will be more ambitious this season, which won't come as a total surprise, as they are a well-run club.
Swansea's chances of making the play-offs were slim on the final day of 2019/2020 season as they needed a five-goal swing to go above Nottingham Forest. Crazy as it gets, it actually happened with Swansea blowing out Reading and Forest suffering a heavy loss as well. They fell short to Brentford, but now they will expect to challenge once more.
PRESTON VS SWANSEA MATCH ANALYSIS
Some are rightfully suggesting that looking constantly for bargains in the League of Ireland or the League Two can work out, but only so often. It's staggering that they haven't signed a single oversea player over the last five years or so. They are in desperate need of a quality striker, and if the rumored 500.000 pounds is all that Alex Neil is given to get one, it seems like they are trying to get one on the cheap again.
Preston have established themselves as a mid-table club in the last five campaigns as they have finished 11th,11th,7th,14th and 9th, and the big question is if they can break into that top-six bracket this season. Alex Neil, the manager, remains faithful to the Lilywhites which signals the believe he must have in this crop of players. They have the good foundations to make that push for the Premier League and what's been missing is that elusive X-factor.
For the Bluebirds, manager Steve Cooper has done brilliantly in his first managerial job despite limited resources and a small squad. They will be without Rhian Brewster, their best player last year, who returned to Liverpool as his loan spell ended. Mike van der Hoorn has moved on to, but they signed a new goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, a winger Jamal Lowe and midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White on loan.
The lack of squad depth is what they must address if they want to be in the mix for the play-offs again. Since losing Brewster they haven't found a partner in attack for Andre Ayew, and it is probably the only thing they need to resemble a complete package.Their 20/21 season has already started with a loss in the EFL Cup, but as far as their league openers go, they haven't lost in last six matches.

Preston has suffered a lot from late goals last season and they could seldom find one when they needed it. They have a positive record at home in their last 20 matches (45%, W9) and while Swansea have a slightly better head-to-head record (W2L1D2) they haven't picked too many away victories in last 19 fixtures as most of their travels ended in a draw or a loss (42%, W3,D8,L8).
