Preston host Watford at the Deepdale Stadium (Preston) in the 30th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 7 pm (UK) on Tuesday, February 16. Read our reasons for Preston vs Watford prediction and betting tips.
Preston, buoyed by their previous result, will be hoping for more of the same after the 1-2 Championship win against Blackburn. However, prior to that, the Lilywhites had lost back-to-back league games at Sheffield Wed and against Rotherham at home and are remain in 11th place and the three points at Ewood Park see them level on points (39) with Stoke and Blackburn, in 10th and 9th respectively. As for Watford, the Hornets go into this match after a 6-0 demolition of Bristol in their previous outing. A succession of hard-working displays from the Watford defence has seen them conceding only three times from their previous 6 fixtures in the second-division and netting 10 goals themselves in the process. They sit in 4th, having lost only once in their last 7 league games (W4, D2).
While Preston might still just be hanging onto their spot in the top-half of the Championship table, Alex Neil’s men do find themselves in the midst of a sluggish patch. Eventually hit with a 2-1 loss at home against second-tier returners Rotherham last weekend, the former Norwich boss has seen his side on the verge of slipping out of the top-12. The Whites have picked up just two wins since opening 2021 and the win at Blackburn can boost their slim play-off hopes.
Preston edged out Lancashire rivals Blackburn to seal the three points on Friday thanks to a frantic first-half performance at Ewood Park. Preston took the lead against the run of play thanks to Greg Cunningham's superb strike and doubled their advantage through Liam Lindsay's header. Blackburn hit back on the stroke of half-time through Adam Armstrong's penalty, but Alex Neil's side held on to make up for their 3-0 defeat by Rovers at Deepdale in November.
Watford, on the other hand, are definitely looking to get back to top-flight immediately and are hoping that a change of managers will galvanise the squad as Vladimir Ivic was sacked after his side’s 2-0 defeat at mid-table Huddersfield in December, just four months into his reign. Since Xisco Munoz took charge, their record across all competitions is ‘W5, D2, L3’ under the Spaniard and after failing to score in their last three matches, something had to give against Bristol.
Coming into this fixture no side had won more games at home in the Championship this season than Watford and a stunning first-half performance helped promotion-chasing Watford blow away out-of-form Bristol at Vicarage Road. Watford's win - their biggest margin of victory in a league game since beating Sunderland 8-0 in 1982 - means they stay fourth, six points behind second-placed Brentford in the automatic promotion race.

Preston meet Watford unbeaten in their last 13 home league matches against the Hornets (W8, D5) since losing 2-1 all the way back in December 1979. These two teams have last shared the league in the 2010/11 campaign and, interestingly, there hasn’t been an away league win in fixtures between Preston and Watford since August 2005, when Preston won.
The reverse fixture between the two on November 28 finished with a 4-1 Watford win and Preston will need to put in a solid display to break down this Watford lineup and avoid suffering a league double. However, if Saar, Sema, and co are up for it, the Lillywhites will struggle.
