QPR host Reading at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium (London) in the 18th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, December 12.
QPR VS READING MATCH ANALYSIS
QPR could have moved into the top half of the table with a good result against Brentford on matchday 14, but the Bees won 2-1, and QPR went on to lose their next two matches – against Bristol (1-2) and Huddersfield (2-0). They ended the three-game losing run against Millwall at home (1-1) in midweek which saw them remain in 18th place with 18 points. As for Reading, The Royals were the only Championship side without a defeat in the league alongside Bournemouth until the 9th round (W7-D1), but then they suffered four defeats on the trot. Since then, they found solidity with two draws and a win, but are now back at square one after a home defeat to Birmingham (1-2), which puts them at 5th in the table with 30 points, ahead of their visit to the capital city.
If there was one thing that QPR provided last season, it was entertainment. The west Londoners scored 67 goals in last season's Championship campaign - a figure beaten only by Leeds, West Brom, Brentford, and Cardiff. However, 40 of these goals came from Eberechi Eze, Jordan Hugill, and Nahki Wells, all of whom now play their football elsewhere. They are still fun to watch, but this campaign has proven so far that they will struggle without those three, which was evident again in their most recent league match against Millwall.
The match was overshadowed by the controversy after some Lions fans booed players taking a knee before the loss to Derby County. This time, Millwall supporters cheered and clapped as players from their side and QPR held an anti-racism banner before playing out a draw at The Den. As for the game itself, the first half was forgettable, but Ilias Chair's brilliant second-half strike and substitute Jon Dadi Bodvarsson’s deflected shot saw both teams share a point on the night.
Reading, on the other hand, fell to 6th place after losing four matches on the trot, but have remained in the play-off contention after they managed to consolidate a bit. After conceding only twice in the first seven matches, they have shipped 20 in their last ten. Could it be that the Royals have finally found the elusive X-factor from the previous seasons only to lose it irreparably so soon? Their identity is still forging, and with the latest defeat, it looks like they have taken a few steps back again.
On Wednesday, Reading, who could have gone second with a win, failed to register a shot on target in the first half and trailed to two Jon Toral goals at half-time. Blues saw out the final 19 minutes with 10 men, but the Blues hang on for the three points. The Royals are now one of four clubs locked together on 30 points.
