Rangers and Galatasaray face each other in a great battle for the place in a group stage of the Europa League at Ibrox Stadium on Thursday.
While qualification alone is a significant success for both teams, this fixture got an added importance with serious implications for both nations with Scotland just one place behind Turkey in the European coefficients. That could mean an extra Champions League place for the winning nation in seasons to come, but clearly, both sides will be focussed on the immediate aim to secure European football nights.
Rangers had no problems in a 4-0 win over Willem II and given their flying start to the new Scotland Premiership campaign, it is no wonder why they have high hopes for the next match. Rangers have been in excellent form and, notably, Steven Gerrard’s side has only conceded four goals in 11 games in the new campaign. Rangers will be hoping for a repeat of their last result, following a 1-5 Premiership success vs Motherwell when they destroyed their rivals with fast pace and big conversion rate of created chances. They had 16 attempts on goal with 9 of them on target, five times in the net. Rangers have been on a persistent run of goalscoring form, hitting the target in the last 6 matches. If their defense can keep Galatasaray’s attack quiet, there’s every chance that the likes of Hagi, Morelos, and Kent can capitalize on their creativity and quality.
Steven Gerrard will be without defender Nikola Katic and midfielders Joe Aribo and Ryan Jack for this game due to injuries. Forward Kemar Roofe is also a doubt but may take a spot on the bench.
Rangers (4-3-3): Allan McGregor, James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Calvin Bassey, Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield, Ianis Hagi, Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent
Injured: Nikola Katic, Joe Aribo, Ryan Jack
Doubtful: Kemar Roofe
Suspended: None
Galatasaray, on the other hand, had more problems against Hajduk Split, scoring the goal late in the second half with Belhanda and Babel helping the Turkish outfit set up a meeting with Rangers. Belhanda should be welcomed into the starting line-up, as well as Radamel Falcao who was rested in the third qualifying round. Galatasaray is dangerous in attack and has plenty of experience, and with Falcao up front, there’s always the potential for them to score goals. They have problems if taken the ball when don't have a high percentage of ball possession they lack focus in the defense and they are very prone to mistakes. In their previous game, Galatasaray met Fenerbahce in the biggest derby in the Turkish football on Sunday and the teams shared the points after a goalless stalemate. That draw ended Galatasaray’s four-game winning streak, but their unbeaten run continues and is now set to ten matches.
Galatasaray boss Fatih Terim has promised to pick his strongest side for this clash – meaning Radamel Falcao and Arda Turan are likely to start the game. They have one aim in this season, to win the title in the domestic league but Europa League could be a pleasant distraction.
Goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, left-back Marcelo Saracchi, and midfielder Emre Akbaba are likely to miss out due to injuries.
Galatasaray (4-1-4-1): Fatih Ozturk, Omar Elabdellaoui, Christian Luyindama, Marcao, Martin Linnes, Taylan Antalyali, Ryan Babel, Younes Belhanda, Emre Kilinc, Arda Turan, Radamel Falcao
Injured: Fernando Muslera, Marcelo Saracchi, Emre Akbaba
Doubtful: None

It could be a very intensive game with a lot of yellow and possible red cards but betting on goals could be most reasonable. Over 2,5 goals and both teams to score are preferable bets.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
