Reading host Blackburn at the Madejski Stadium (Reading) in the 34th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Tuesday, March 2. Read our reasons for Reading vs Blackburn prediction and betting tips.
Reading are having an excellent season under former Chicago Fire manager Velijko Paunovic, having earned 54 points from 33 matches. The Royals have suffered a little dent in form with two wins on both sides of back-to-back defeats (W2, L4), but still remain in 5th ahead of Tuesday night. As for Blackburn, the Rovers are going through a bad spell at the moment, coming into this match on the back of five consecutive defeats and only a 1-1 draw against struggling Coventry at home, last time out. Consequently, the injury-stricken Blackburn have now slipped down to 15th in the standings, making the magic safety-promising 40-point mark.
With four defeats in their last six matches (W2), the Royals are coming off the tracks just at the wrong time in the season and the gap to seventh place is narrowing by the week. Reading’s worrying slump in form down to lack of impact players, poor subs, injuries, but most importantly, the lack of consistency. It is by chance more than anything their league position has not been impacted more by the bad run of results and have very little margin for error over the final 13 games if they want to be battling it out for a promotion spot in May.
However, would be glad to see his side picking up the important away 1-0 win at Rotherham, after getting just four points from the possible 18 on offer prior to this game. Michael Morrison's first-half goal was enough to give Reading all three points in a scrappy affair at Championship strugglers Rotherham and their seventh win on the road this season. The victory was all the more important as play-off rivals AFC Bournemouth had beaten Watford in the lunchtime fixture and gone above them in the league table.
On the other hand, Blackburn’s form is in stark contrast to their encouraging early season and, naturally, boss Tony Mowbray is coming under increased scrutiny. There are sections of the Rovers fanbase that have seemingly seen enough from Mowbray and would like to see him moved on, whilst some are calling for patience. Horrendously out of form and in dreadful need of points to alter the tide, Tony Mowbray is in desperate need of galvanising his squad ahead of a crucial set of fixtures, with the relentless scheduling showing no signs of abating until the end of March.
On Saturday, Blackburn make the trip to the Madejski Stadium on the back of six matches without success, a run of form which has left the North-West outfit having to consider the possibility of a relegation fight. Tony Mowbray insisted there has been no faith lost after a pedestrian second-half performance, but the result leaves Mowbray's side sliding down the Championship table and altering their attention to what is below them, rather than what is ahead.

Reading meet Blackburn looking to strengthen their hold of the fifth position and to do a double over Blackburn as the Royals celebrated a 4-2 win at the Ewood Park earlier in October. The Rovers, however, have a slightly better overall record with 7 wins to Reading’s 5 in their last 27 meetings, and Mowbray is expected to field an attacking side in a bid to end the poor run.
Meanwhile, the away match in South Yorkshire at a relegation-threatened Rotherham was always going to challenge Reading and reveal their true character and potential. The manner and execution of it gives the club a huge lift and with them being a more well-rounded side than Blackburn, we expect them to have an edge over the Rovers in midweek.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
