Reading host Huddersfield at the Madejski Stadium (Reading) in the 46th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 12.30 pm (UK) on Saturday, May 8. Read our reasons for Reading vs Huddersfield prediction and betting tips.
Reading collapsed in the second half at Carrow Road as they lost out 4-1 against Norwich, with Daniel Farke's Canaries clinching the Championship title with the win. After spending 36 of the opening 37 rounds in the top six, Reading have suffered a mighty fall from grace with a run of just one win from their last ten league games (W1, D6, L3) rendering this game a dead-rubber. Meanwhile, the Terriers secured the club’s Championship status following a 1-1 draw with Coventry at the John Smith’s Stadium. Huddersfield’s second-half leveller cancelled out Coventry’s opener in the minutes earlier to ensure Town would take a point from the final home game of the season.
Title celebrations at Carrow Road were tough to watch for a Royals side who more than matched their hosts in an entertaining first half. But Norwich capitalised on their opportunities in the second period and ran out comfortable winners. Paunovic said, however, that there were lessons to be learned from the defeat, with Reading now preparing for their final game of the season against Huddersfield before turning their attention to the next season.
Admitting that there is work to do for him and his players, the Serbian bemoaned a lack of killer instinct, lack of execution – something that has plagued the Royals recently. And which is something Reading have to learn for the next campaign. Despite their poor form, Reading have proven plucky at home, as they protect a six-game unbeaten run of home league games (W3, D3). Boss Paunovic will want his side to finish strong by recovering their fundamentals and end the season the proper way.
As for Huddersfield, Danny Ward’s second-half leveller ensured Town would take a point from the final home game of the season. With that and results elsewhere, the Terriers secured safety in the division with a game to spare. However, while they are safe now, The Terriers have been more bark than bite lately, recording just one win in nine league games (W1, D4, L4), and scoring only six goals in the process - only Sheffield Wed and Wycombe have picked up fewer than Huddersfield’s paltry 17-point away haul.
It’s been a horrible season physically and mentally for Huddersfield, and any hope of finishing the season on a high is now gone. For all Corberan’s talk of wanting to reach his points target, the most important thing is that they just avoid any injuries. The next game we will judge Huddersfield on in any meaningful way will be on the weekend of 7th August, when the next season gets under way. The Terriers and manager Corberan now have to try and convince everybody that another year of misery does not lay ahead.

Reading meet Huddersfield looking to record their first league double over The Town since the 2001-02 campaign under manager Alan Pardew – they have celebrated a 2-1 win in the reverse fixture at the turn of the year. On the other hand, Huddersfield have only won 4 of their 23 away league matches against Reading (D7, L12), most recently in August 2014, a 2-1 win.
This game is effectively an unwelcome post-season friendly now with both teams not even likely to move any league positions. Also, both teams have only one win between them in their last ten games, and we wouldn’t expect them to go all out on the final day.
