READING VS NOTTS FOREST MATCH ANALYSIS
The Royals were the only Championship side without a defeat in the league alongside Bournemouth until the 9th round (W7-D1), but then they suffered four defeats on the trot - against Coventry (3-2), Preston (0-3), Stoke (0-3), and Watford (4-2). Since then, they have recorded two draws and a win, which puts them in 4th in the table with 27 points, ahead of the Nottingham visit. As for the Notts Forest, Chris Hughton has drawn three and won three of his first eight league games in charge at Forest and lost only once (1-0 to Middlesbrough) before the international break. However, the break did not bring any positives for the Reds, as they lost three games on the trot – against Barnsley (2-0), Bournemouth (2-0), and Swansea (0-1). The Reds ended the losing streak against Watford at home in midweek (0-0), which means that they have fallen down to 21st place with 13 points after four matches without a win.
After losing four matches on the trot, Reading fell to 6th place, but have climbed up the standings after they managed to consolidate a bit. After conceding only twice in the first seven matches, they have shipped eighteen in their last eight. Could it be that the Royals have finally found the elusive X-factor from the previous seasons only to lose it irreparably so soon? Their identity is still forging, but it looked like they have a game plan to stick to until recently.
In their most recent league match, they came from behind to earn a draw against 10-man Sheffield Wed. The result helps Reading keep pace with the leaders at the top of the Championship, with the draw leaving them just a point behind top side Norwich. They have extended their unbeaten run in midweek Championship fixtures to 10 games with their form turning around after a spell of four straight defeats in October and November.
Nottingham, on the other hand, despite their upturn in form upon Hughton’s appointment, are still sitting in 21st place, dangerously close to the relegation zone, and will be very aware of how hard it will be to drag themselves away from the drop. Notts Forest had two must-win games at home to fellow strugglers Coventry (2-1) and Wycombe (2-0) before the break, and in hindsight, it was important they got maximum points there as their next three games proved too tough.
They ended the losing run in midweek with a goalless draw against the Hornets at the City Ground but missed the chance to pull away from the bottom three as they had most of the chances in a tepid 90 minutes. A point for Chris Hughton's side puts them three points off the drop zone, still in 21st place. They will look for their second away league win, but the Royals, are slowly turning the corner.

These two teams have met 22 times so far, with Nottingham having a slight edge over the Royals with 8 wins to Reading’s 7. Both of their last year’s fixtures ended in 1-1 draws.
The Royals ended their losing streak, but after picking up 7 wins in the first 8 rounds, they have only one win in the last 7 Championship matches. The Royals have lost two consecutive home league games by 3+ goals, but have bounced back against Bristol, which gives them the confidence they can beat the struggling Notts Forest on Saturday.
As for the Forest, they failed to find the net in the previous four league fixtures, meaning that the lack of confidence could prove to be a big problem for them in the Saturday clash. Forest have a poor away record, having scored only twice in their seven games on the road, and without several key players – Grabban, Sow, and Freeman – it will be very difficult for them to get anything when they visit Reading.
BettingKick’s prediction for Reading vs Notts Forest match is: Reading win
