Reading host QPR at the Madejski Stadium (Reading) in the 38th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, March 20. Read our reasons for Reading vs QPR prediction and betting tips.
A hugely disappointing performance by Royals at Birmingham (2-1) saw them slump to a first defeat in five matches and 12th overall this season, which means Veljko Paunovic's side have slipped a place to sixth in the league table. Reading are clinging on to the fourth and final play-off place with the gap to seventh-placed AFC Bournemouth standing at just two points. On the other hand, QPR boosted their credentials of finishing in the top half of the table on Wednesday night by defeating London rivals Millwall 3-2 at Loftus Road. It would appear that QPR have very little play for, but they’re still in good form with three wins in four games (L1).
Reading produced one of their worst performances of the season as they crashed to a 2-1 defeat on Wednesday night. Royals never really recovered after conceding with just four minutes on the clock at St Andrew's. Yakou Meite drew the visitors level but despite having the majority of the possession in the second period, they did very little with it and were punished with 20 minutes left when Harlee Dean headed home against the run of play to give the Blues a much-needed three points as they continue their battle against the drop.
For Veljko Paunovic's side, there was a lot of soul searching to do as they fell to a 12th defeat of the campaign. Reading now only have nine games remaining in the Championship, and welcome the mid-table QPR on home soil next before they go on the two-week international break. A win could see the Royals further cement their playoff spot, but dropping points at this stage is dangerous – particularly with Bournemouth and Middlesbrough hot on their tails.
Meanwhile, Mark Warburton has led an R’s charge up the Championship table in 2021 after a less-than-impressive start to the season, and it’s come off the back of a change in shape and some smart January signings. Inconsistencies have crept into the team though recently with losses coming to the likes of Birmingham and Huddersfield, and things looked to be heading that away again as they went into half-time 2-0 down to Millwall.
But three of Warburton’s January signings made the difference in the second half, with goals from Charlie Austin, Stefan Johansen and a late Jordy de Wijs winner giving the hosts all three points and importantly it moved them into the top half of the table. That seemed like a world away a few months ago, but QPR will now look to finish in the top 10 with the play-offs probably out of reach. The Hoops will be hoping they can finish this year’s campaign strongly, starting with a positive performance against Reading at the weekend next.

Reading meet QPR looking to complete a league double over QPR for the first time since the 2005-06 Championship season, when they won promotion after celebrating a 1-0 victory in London in the reverse fixture in December.
QPR haven’t lost three consecutive league matches against Reading since May 1966, when they lost four in a row. Meanwhile, none of Reading’s last 20 home league games have ended level, with the Royals winning 11 and losing 9. On the other hand, QPR have won four away league games in 2021, one more than they’d registered in the whole of 2020 (3).
