Reading host Swansea at the Madejski Stadium (Reading) in the 44th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 12 pm (UK) on Sunday, April 25. Read our reasons for Reading vs Swansea prediction and betting tips.
Reading turned in a disappointing performance when they needed a win most on Wednesday night, labouring to a goalless draw against mid-table Luton. The Royals have won just one of their last eight league games and are now six points behind sixth-placed Barnsley. Meanwhile, Swansea’s automatic promotion hopes are all but over after a 1-0 defeat against QPR at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The late concession, combined with Watford’s 1-0 win against Norwich, means that Steve Cooper’s side have to win all three of their remaining games, and hope that the Hornets lose all three of theirs if they want to finish in second place.
Reading's play-off dream is fading fast and Wednesday night's goalless draw at Luton Town has all but sealed their fate. The result leaves them in the seventh spot in the Championship table, with 68 points from 43 games. That's six points off sixth-placed Barnsley going into the final three games of the season. It leaves the Royals with a mountain to climb over the next couple of weeks, and they will need a lot of luck along the way if they want to be competing in the play-offs for a shot at the Premier League.
Next up for Veljko Paunovic's side is a clash with fourth-placed Swansea on Sunday lunchtime. They then travel to already-promoted Norwich before ending the campaign at home to lowly Huddersfield. As things stand, the Royals have a marginally better goal difference (plus 11 compared with plus nine) than Barnsley so this could also come into play should the two clubs finish level on points. However, the odds are stacked against Paunovic's side, though, since they have won just one of their past eight matches.
On the other hand, as of Wednesday morning, Steve Cooper’s side still have a nine-point buffer over seventh-placed Reading ahead of the trip to the Madejski Stadium on Sunday. But with five teams slugging it out for four play-off spots, one of the Swans, Brentford, Bournemouth, Barnsley, and the Royals will miss out on a top-six place. Swansea are of course in the strongest position as things stand, although they have played a game more than each of the other four aforementioned sides.
It would take an almighty collapse for Swansea to miss out on a play-off spot, but given the way they played for large parts of the games against Wycombe and QPR, fans are understandably concerned of what lies ahead. Of course, the fact Swansea look destined to secure a play-off spot is no doubt something supporters would have grabbed before a ball was kicked this season - although the drop-off in recent weeks and months has been concerning.

Reading meet Swansea having not recorded a win in 14 previous matches against the Swans in all competitions (D6, L8) since a 4-0 win in September 2008. However, Reading are unbeaten in their last five home league games (W3, D2). Swansea have won their last two away league games against Reading, winning both 4-1 – they have never won three in a row against the Royals. They are also in the poor run of form having lost five of their last eight league games (W2, D1), as many defeats as in their previous 30 Championship matches combined.
