Real Madrid will be looking to book their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League when they welcome Atalanta BC as they hold a slight advantage heading into the clash in Madrid, having recorded a 1-0 win in Bergamo in the first leg. Read our reasons for Real Madrid vs Atalanta prediction and betting tips.
Real Madrid geared up for the Champions League clash with Atalanta by fighting back for a last-gasp 2-1 win over Elche with Karim Benzema’s brace. Los Blancos were struggling once again on home turf in La Liga and went a goal down to Dani Calvo’s header. However, Benzema then stepped up to rescue Real Madrid with a towering header of his own a few minutes later. Benzema also scored the winner to complete the comeback, firing in a rocket of a half-volley from the edge of the box in stoppages. That was the French forward’s 20th goal in all competition this season. Benzema had been ruled out of the first leg when Real Madrid beat 10-man Atalanta 1-0, but he’ll be one to keep a close eye on next week.
Madrid will again be without the services of Dani Carvajal, Alvaro Odriozola, Marcelo, and Mariano Diaz who are all unlikely to be available for the home side. Casemiro is suspended due to the booking that he picked up in the first leg, meaning that Federico Valverde could operate alongside Luka Modric and Toni Kroos as part of a midfield three. Sergio Ramos made his return from injury against Elche and should feature once again, but Eden Hazard is expected to be among the substitutes with Marco Asensio and Vinicius Junior on either side of Benzema.
Real Madrid: Courtois; Vazquez, Varane, Ramos, Mendy; Kroos, Valverde, Modric; Asensio, Benzema, Vinicius
Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini immediately focused on the big game against Real Madrid in the Champions League after the 3-1 win over Spezia. Mario Pasalic scored a brace on either side of Luis Muriel’s stunning 2-0 goal, to help the Orobici secure three important points in Serie A on Friday. But Gasperini was quick to turn his attention towards the big match against Real Madrid on Tuesday. La Dea trails the Spanish giants by 1-0 from the first leg in Bergamo and Gasperini said the Orobici will do their best to turn around the ‘complicated match’. “Let’s not go there to have a walk,” Gasperini told the media. “It’s a difficult result to turn around, it would be complicated anyway, let alone with a disadvantage. “In the first leg we played a painful, defensive match, we weren’t able to play 11 against 11, we’ll see. “We hope to go ahead. We are proud to play it with an uncompromised qualification.”
Atalanta will be without the services of Hans Hateboer due to a fractured foot, while Freuler is suspended due to the red card that he picked up in the first leg. Duvan Zapata started on the bench against Spezia in the league on Friday but will be back in the side for this game, while Cristian Romero should return in the middle of the defense. Freuler's spot from the first leg is expected to be taken by Mario Pasalic, who scored twice against Spezia, while Zapata will be joined in the final third of the field by the team's leading scorer this season Luis Muriel.
Atalanta: Gollini; Toloi, Romero, Djimsiti; Maehle, De Roon, Pasalic, Gosens; Pessina; Muriel, Zapata

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
