Real Madrid host Chelsea at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium (Madrid) in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Tuesday, April 27. Read our reasons for Real Madrid vs Chelsea prediction and betting tips.
The home team is out for revenge after losing 1-0 in the European Super League when meeting the Blues. Gus Poyet scored the winning goal in that match back in 1998. An exciting piece of information regarding this game is Real Madrid have never recorded a win over Chelsea in their previous three attempts. The head-to-head stats stand at two wins for the Londoners and one draw. Blancos aim to get off the mark here. The Blues have an exciting young team with a bright future, but we feel Real may just have too much nous for them at this moment in time.
Real Madrid eliminated last season’s English Premier League champions, Liverpool, in the previous round, and they did so without too much resistance. The Spanish giants won 3-1 on aggregate, doing the damage in the first leg with a 3-1 victory before seeing the game out at Anfield with a goalless draw. Real Madrid are seeking to reach a first UCL final in three years and after four straight clean sheets, another one here would be potentially vital.
It's now 17 games since Real last tasted defeat so they will be full of confidence heading into this intriguing semi-final. Real were far from convincing when topping the Group B table but have predictably stepped up a gear during the knockout rounds. Many of this squad featured in Real’s Champions League hat-trick between 2016 and 2018, so it was no surprise to see them show such resolve. Recent La Liga results have also highlighted a willingness to battle, with Barcelona beaten 2-1 after a 1-1 draw with city rivals Atletico.
As for Chelsea, they are battling hard in the Champions League and Premier League. They are hoping to blast their way through to the final of this competition and also aim to finish in the top four of their domestic league and secure Champions League football for next term. The Blues currently have two chances to qualify for next season’s tournament, through the top four in England or as winners of this season’s competition.
Chelsea lost 1-0 at home to Porto when last in Champions League action but progressed 2-1 on aggregate. They followed that with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Man City in the FA Cup semi-final, drew 0-0 at home to Brighton in the league and beat West Ham 1-0 in Stratford Saturday thanks to a Timo Werner strike. Chelsea have been able to keep things tight in defence and a goalless draw on Tuesday night will be huge as the Blues aim to ensure the tie is competitive back at Stamford Bridge for the second leg.

Real Madrid meet Chelsea for the fourth time in European competitions – they faced in the 1971 Cup Winners’ Cup final and the 1998 UEFA Super Cup final, with Londoners unbeaten in all three. Real Madrid haven't lost a competitive match since February 17 games ago, but they have won just one of their last four outings. A 1-0 win over West Ham on Saturday means Chelsea have not conceded in three matches, a run they'll seek to continue at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano this week. The Blues have conceded just one goal in their last seven games away from Stamford Bridge as they look to book a Champions League final spot.
This could be a cagey affair in Spain and with neither side prepared to give too much away and the BettingKick’s real Madrid vs Chelsea prediction is: Under 2.5 goals
