Real Madrid host Liverpool at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium (Madrid) in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Tuesday, April 6. Read our reasons for Real Madrid vs Liverpool prediction and betting tips.
Two of the European Cup's most successful clubs meet in a repeat of 2018 final. Madrid won that one before Liverpool went one better 12 months later. Neither side has been doing great in 2020/21, particularly the Reds, but both have a habit of pulling a top performance out of the bag, particularly in this competition. The pair, who have 19 European Cup successes between them, set up this meeting by each finishing first in their group before easing through the round of 16, Madrid seeing off Atalanta and Liverpool safely negotiating their tie against Leipzig.
Real Madrid appears to have rediscovered some form following a testing mid-season downturn. At the moment, Zinedine Zidane’s men are in good form domestically but have had a kind run of fixtures. Nevertheless, they have only lost one of their last 18 La Liga games and sealed an easy 4-1 aggregate win over Atalanta in the Round of 16. They are by far the most successful club in the CL history, having been crowned European champions 13 times, but this is their first quarter-final appearance in three seasons.
Los Blancos are not quite the force they once were and they only managed 10 points from their six group matches, although they did at least scrape through as group winners despite two defeats at the hands of Shakhtar Donetsk. Their recent league form looks impressive at first sight, having been unbeaten since the start of February, but their only games against top-half opposition during that time both ended in 1-1 draws. Now they have a tough week ahead, especially with the game falling in the same week as El Clasico.
Meanwhile, even though Liverpool has enjoyed huge success over the past couple of seasons, Klopp’s men will still be desperate to gain revenge on Real Madrid after what happened in the 2017/18 UCL final. Los Blancos won 3-1 on that occasion, with Loris Karius gifting them two goals via a couple of infamous mistakes. But a lot has changed since then. Liverpool went on to win the Champions League the following year before clinching the EPL title last term, yet a recent dip in form has seen the Reds lose a lot of credibility.
Still, Liverpool have been much more impressive in the CL than they have in the PL this season. Their title defence may be in tatters but Jurgen Klopp’s side were lifted by the solid displays in seeing off RB Leipzig 2-0 in each leg to book a quarter-final place. Liverpool’s performances have been better than results suggest, especially on the road as seen in their 3-0 triumph at the Emirates at the weekend. The return of Diogo Jota has boosted their attacking threat but their well-documented injury problems in defence remain an issue.

Real Madrid meet Liverpool having previously won each of their last three games against the Reds in the UEFA Champions League. However, in their only previous two-legged knockout European tie, Liverpool won 5-0 on aggregate against Real Madrid in the last 16 of the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League, which is Madrid's biggest ever aggregate defeat in a knockout tie in the competition.
Real Madrid have won the first leg of eight of their last nine Champions League knockout ties, whilst Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has won each of his last five games at the quarter-final stage of the Champions League.
As both teams are struggling to get going and also have tough league games on both ends of this tie, BettingKick’s Real Madrid vs Liverpool prediction is: Under 2.5 goals

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
