Reims and Lille will try to grab the first victory in the new season on Sunday at Stade Auguste-Delaune.
The second round in Ligue 1 will be the second chance for Reims to add more points after they get on in thrilling 2-2 opener vs Monaco. At Stade Louis II hosts have been dominant side but Reims efficiently used their chances in the first half against Niko Kovač defense who will need some time to gel. Boulaye Dia converted a good cross with a precise low shot into the bottom left corner after five minutes and El Bilal Toure found his way past opponents and unleashed a great effort from the edge of the box for 2-0 lead in 21st minute.
Reims had one of the best defenses in the League 1 in the last season with just 21 conceded goals before the championship was shut down due to coronavirus pandemic. They had big problems to score and Dia was their top goalscorer with only 7 goals in the whole season so that start was unexpected. In the first game of the new season, Monaco took control and hit the bar before they scored two easy set-piece goals for final 2-2 but it was game that could go any way with a different result easily because both teams missed big chances in the second half. Reims ex-player Alexi Disasi scored for Monaco on debut and it was clear that he will be missed in Reim's defense. Both Monaco central defenders scored on set-pieces and coach David Guion must spend some time on training to solve the problem before the next match. Donis and Doumbia are likely to miss the game with injuries for the hosts.
Lille established itself as one of the best clubs in France with a youth academy that is among the finest in Europe. They were second in 2018/2019 and fourth at the standings before last season was abandoned and they missed UCL spot for a point. Lille played great football so their star striker Victor Osimhen went to Napoli for 70 million euros and Arsenal is very close to signing their best defender Gabriel Magalhaes.
Despite that, Lille played a good game vs Rennes, a team that will play in qualifiers for UCL. Their rivals had a man sent off in 35th minute and Lille scored fight minutes later when Xeka found Bamba who used his goalscoring skills to slot behind Rennes' goalkeeper. In 43rd-minute left-back Reinildo Mandava made a clumsy challenge and was sent off. That completely changed the momentum for Lille who wasn’t at their best level in the second half and conceded after set-piece with Da Silva goal from few yards. Final 1-1 draw vs a team that was a place better in last season can’t be disappointing but Lille must play for a win in any game vs any opponent if they want to satisfy their ambition to play in Group stage of the UCL.
They have a crop of young and very talented players who must find a way to be leaders of the team like Ikone, Renato Sanchez, and Jonathan Bamba, especially after big departures. Reinaldo will miss the next game because of the suspension but left-back Brdarić that came from Hajduk Split had the potential to fill his spot without any problems and he did that in the second half vs Rennes. Timothy Weah is still doubtful due to the lack of fitness after injury.

Reims is a decent team but they lost many key figures in defense and that was clear vs Monaco. Time will tell how Lille will react without key figures in the last season but they have the quality to win no matter where they play, home or away. Lille win is a preferable bet for this match.
So, my final Reims vs Lille Prediction is Lille to win

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
