Top of the table clash of Ligue 1 will be on Saturday, Rennes host Monaco in matchday 4 at Roazhon Park.
Rennes played well from the start of the season and after a 1-1 draw against Lille, they won two games in a row. The hosts currently sit in 1st place in the table having beaten Nimes 2-4 last time out, a before that they were better than Montepellier 2-1. On the visiting Nîmes ground, Rennes shows that they are capable of scoring goals for fun and that Guirassy is a must-watch player in this league. Rennes' rookie scored two goals in the first, very intensive half that finished 2-1 for the away team. Ferhat equalized in the 55th minute for the hosts but Rennes had an immediate answer, Nayef Aguerd was at the right place after a lovely free-kick from Benjamin Bourigeaud to gain the advantage. Nîmes was being close to scoring again, but it was Benjamin Bourigeaud who widened the gap in stoppage time with a powerful strike from the right foot for leading place in the table.
That was a great team victory, they played with full confidence and the right state of mind. They are aware that the season will be long and difficult because of playing a tough schedule in several competitions. They are in the right momentum and that is easy to see on the pitch, where everyone puts in the effort for each other. They have a united group because of the time spent together and very successful last year and they look like a team that could achieve great things. Coach Julien Stephan is a man that built good relationships in the dressing room, players have certain bondage that helps with automatism on the pitch, creating chances and efficient and precise movements. The last goal vs Nimes was proof of that when Bourigeaud did what was necessary to find himself in good position after a counterattack. He ran all over the pitch to be in a situation to score and he was well served by Del Castillo. Manager Julien Stéphan to be concerned about thanks to an almost full-strength group of players. James Léa Siliki won’t play and Sacha Boey is out because of suspension.
Monaco is an emerging power after not so well last season, a team that changed many things and is more prone to ups and downs but in the three games they also have seven points and after interesting 2-2 at home vs Reims they won the next two games. Away 1-0 win vs Metz gave them a defensive boost after a sloppy display of the backline but a 2-1 victory against Nantes was crucial for young players to understand that they are on the right path in the new club that wants for a start hard battle for places that will guarantee Champions League football.
At the Stade Louis-II, AS Monaco won the 1000th match in their top-flight history. Nantes was a good rival but Monaco had 57% possession and 18 shots on goal with 5 on target. Sofiane Diop (5') and Willem Geubbels (65') scored at the right time and relieved the team from the pressure to put historical victory in the bag as soon as possible but they suffered because this new team and coach must spend more time on the training ground and gain experience from playing together with such tough games as aforementioned.
Niko Kovac looks like a different coach regarding his time at Bayern, he is smiling, encouraging players. He was similar in Eintracht a few years ago when he had success with the middle table team that is Monaco now. They have an almost perfect mix of youth, pace, and experience and with players like Fabregas, Jovetić, or Ben Yedder as leaders, many will learn and exploit their presence to go on a higher level. Sofiane Diop, Henry Onyekuru, Willem Geubbels, and Pietro Pellegri, will get playing minutes and a chance to show their qualities as well as all players from the last line that are more reliable now than in the first match. Benjamin Lecomte and Aleksandr Golovin won’t be on the team sheet for the next match.

It is almost certain that Rennes and Monaco will play the game with a lot of goals, it is almost sure. Both teams have more than decent attacking power and their defenses are not so good at the moment but the most reasonable and valuable bet could be Rennes win because they are more stable and consistent at the moment.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
