Stadio Olimpico will host Wednesday’s football game between Roma and Cagliari.
Roma coach Paulo Fonseca was furious with his players after a 4-1 defeat to Atalanta. ‘The second half was men against boys. The attitude changed completely and that cannot happen.’ Edin Dzeko had put the Giallorossi in front in Bergamo after a couple of minutes, then Leonardo Spinazzola hit the post, but Roma slowly vanished from the game and was over-run after the break. Roma has shown a tendency to lose heavily in the big games, also conceding four against Napoli.
Josip Ilicic put on a masterclass for Atalanta to overturn Roma 4-1, providing assists for Duvan Zapata and Robin Gosens before slaloming past defenders. Edin Dzeko had struck early in Bergamo, making the most of a Henrikh Mkhitaryan assist, and Leonardo Spinazzola was denied only by the frame of the goal. However, when Ilicic came off the bench, the game changed, as he set up the Duvan Zapata thunderbolt off the underside of the bar and a towering Robin Gosens header. Luis Muriel was also superb, intercepting the Jordan Veretout pass to score with his first touch. Ilicic capped off a wonderful display with a brilliant solo goal, slaloming past several challenges to surprise Antonio Mirante.
Paulo Fonseca, in addition to long-term absentees Javier Pastore and Nicolo Zaniolo, could be without wing-back Leonardo Spinazzola, who is struggling with a muscle problem. The defense - which failed so badly in the final 30 minutes in Bergamo - should again comprise Gianluca Mancini, Chris Smalling, and Roger Ibanez, with Antonio Mirante starting ahead of Pau Lopez in goal.
Roma (3-4-2-1): Antonio Mirante; Ibanez, Chris Smalling, Gianluca Mancini; Leonardo Spinazzola, Luca Pellegrini, Joran Veretout, Rick Karsdorp; Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Pedro; Eden Dzeko
Eusebio Di Francesco is sorry Cagliari didn’t win against Udinese as The Sardinians were held to a 1-1 home draw by Friuliani. Diego Godin returned to action after recovering from COVID. “I was surprised because he played the entire game,” said Di Francesco. Both goalkeepers made several big saves during the stalemate, although a Charalampos Lykogiannis free-kick and Kevin Lasagna supersub goal got through. The Sardinians took the lead when Lykogiannis confirmed his prowess from set-plays, especially for a defender. Alessio Cragno and Juan Musso were both alerts with important saves, but Lasagna came off the bench and within moments had snatched the equalizer.
Cagliari is without left-back Alessandro Tripaldelli and midfielder Paolo Farago through injury, while Ragnar Klavan and back-up goalkeeper Simone Aresti have contracted COVID-19. Centre-back Sebastian Walukiewicz should return in defense after he missed the Udinese game with a minor injury and will team up with Diego Godin from the start. Due to Gio Simeone's lack of form, there is a three-way competition for the number nine shirt, between Simeone, Leonardo Pavoletti, and Alberto Cerri.
Cagliari (4-2-3-1): Alessio Cragno; Luca Ceppitelli, Diego Godin, Andrea Carboni, Gabriele Zappa; Marko Rog, Christian Oliva; Riccardo Sottil, Joao Pedro, Nahitan Nandez; Alberto Cerri

In their last meeting in the Italian top-flight Roma recorded a thrilling 4-3 win over Cagliari, it could be similar, so both teams to score looks like a decent bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
