After dropping two points in a goalless draw with CSKA Sofia, Roma will host Cluj at Stadio Olimpico on Thursday evening.
Roma comes into Thursday’s Europa League Group A match with CFR Cluj in a very satisfying form with a seven-match unbeaten run in all competitions and targeting another win. The Giallorossi failed to turn their dominance into goals in their second group game against CSKA Sofia in a goalless draw, but they are more than confident after a good team performance against Fiorentina in a 2-0 win and after a great 3-3 draw against Milan. Leonardo Spinnazzola and Pedro scored for the Giallorossi vs Viola who is now five points behind league leaders AC Milan in eighth place. After a shaky start of the season, they are looking like a much sharper team and with players more sure about their duties on the pitch. Also, their coach Paolo Fonseca is more relaxed after a series of good results so he gave the players a day off after the win against Fiorentina.
Roma does not have any new injuries to deal with, so the Portuguese coach will be without the suspended Gianluca Mancini for this game, with Chris Smalling also likely to be rested. They could be replaced by Marash Kumbulla and Federico Fazio in defense, alongside Roger Ibanez.
The Roma boss is likely to revert to his Europa League lineup, with Borja Mayoral set to lead the line, although Edin Dzeko will hope to come on and make his 100th appearance in European competitions.
Roma (3-4-2-1): Pau Lopez (GK); Roger Ibanez, Federico Fazio, Marash Kumbulla; Rick Karsdorp, Bryan Cristante, Gonzalo Villar, Bruno Peres; Pedro Rodriguez, Carles Perez; Borja Mayoral
Cluj, on the other hand, kicked off their Europa League campaign with a 2-0 win over CSKA Sofia, with Young Boys that was a good goalscoring draw in their second group game. Having impressed against both their rivals on matchday one and two, where they scored three times and picking up four points, the Romanian outfit could cause their hosts a problem or two, but they have their problems regarding broken connections between club president and coach Dan Petrescu.
Cluj doesn't have trouble scoring, they found a net at least once in 21 of their last 23 competitive fixtures overall, so Roma could face some problems because their defense is not so brilliant with just three clean sheets in eight games this season. CFR Cluj lost 1-2 at home to Gaz Metan on Sunday in what was their first defeat for the last twenty games across all competitions. Ex-Chelsea player and Romanian legend Dan Petrescu who is now coaching Cluj told the media in the post-match press conference that the upcoming meeting with Roma will be his last at the helm of the club and that is number one news in football media in Romania in the last days. It seems that his connections with the club president are irreparable.
Mike Cestor is unavailable for CFR Cluj, as the center-back suffered an ACL injury that will keep him out for most of the season. Other than Cestor, Dan Petrescu has a fully-fit squad, although he rotated his starting XI barring Ciprian Ioan Deac in the league. Alexandru Chipciu is likely to replace Deac against Roma, as Petrescu reverts to his first-choice XI that played against BSC Young Boys and CSKA Sofia.
Cluj (4-2-3-1): Cristian Balgradean (GK); Mateo Susic, Paulo Vinicius, Andrei Burca, Camora; Ovidiu Hoban, Damjan Djokovic; Mario Rondon, Alexandru Paun, Alexandru Chipciu; Gabriel Debeljuh

Roma is a favorite to win in this match, but with probable rotations and leaving the best eleven for the next match in the Seria A, Cluj will get their chances. Both teams to score is our preferable bet for this match.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
