The Giallorossi host already-relegated Crotone this weekend and will be eager to bounce back from the elimination from the Europa League. Roma is nine points behind Lazio at fifth with four games remaining and has only won once in their last eight games. The Neroverdi have cut the gap up to the Giallorossi to two points ahead of the run-in and the two battle it out for seventh in Serie A this term. Paulo Fonseca assured Roma was ‘a very difficult experience, but a gratifying one’ as he hands over to Jose Mourinho, but there are inevitably regrets after beating Manchester United 3-2 in the Europa League semi-final. The Giallorossi regained some dignity after the 6-2 first-leg defeat by beating Manchester United 3-2 with goals from Edin Dzeko, Bryan Cristante, and debutant teenager Nicola Zalewski. “I think we had a good first half in Manchester, so we lost the round, but did well over the two legs otherwise,” the coach told the media. “I thought we could reach the Final, even when we were paired with Manchester. It was possible, and we were in front at half-time at Old Trafford, but we got it wrong in the second half. It became very difficult to win 4-0 here, but we gave it our best and scored three goals this evening. Unfortunately, Manchester United made the most of all their chances.”
Fonseca gave 19-year-old Ebrima Darboe a chance off the bench, only his second professional appearance in the Roma jersey. “Ebrima had been training with us for some time and when Chris Smalling was injured, I looked to him. As soon as he came on, he looked like a seasoned professional, so he did a wonderful job and so did Zalewski.” It was a strange couple of days for Fonseca, as it was announced he would be leaving at the end of the season, to be replaced by Jose Mourinho. “I know Mourinho well, we are both Portuguese. He was very fair with me at this moment and we did talk. I don’t think Mourinho needs my advice. It has been a great pleasure for me to be the Roma coach. It made me very proud to be part of Italian football. I learned so much and there are many positive things that I can look back on. It was a very difficult experience, but a very gratifying one.”

Serse Cosmi has vowed to keep pushing for points in the remaining games, but the home side must win to keep Sassuolo behind them in the table. The Squali were already virtually relegated for some time, but put up quite a fight against runaway leaders Inter, folding only in the final stages to a deflected Christian Eriksen strike and last-gasp Achraf Hakimi counter-attack. It means they are now mathematically doomed to spend next season in Serie B, less than a year after their promotion. “It’s disappointing because this team has quality, and we showed that again today, but not playing without fans saps a lot from a side battling for Serie A safety,” Cosmi told the media.
He took over from Giovanni Stroppa on March 1 and made his debut with a 5-1 defeat to Atalanta, eventually picking up two wins over Torino and Parma, plus seven defeats. “I also inherited a squad that was not impossible to fit into my style of football, but certainly not that suited either. The issue here is that we feel happy to only lose 2-0 against Inter and that is light years away from my view and light-years away from the level that is required. There are too many mistakes, really basic errors that you pay for at this level.” Cosmi was asked about his future and warned he would only remain at Crotone if there was a genuine project. “I have always said that I want to wait until the end of the season. What I don’t want is to be brought in to euthanize a team, which is what the job was here when I arrived. I want to compete and challenge differently. I have to admit, it’s all a bit frustrating, as I think we could’ve all experienced something different here this season, even if I only experienced a part of it.”
Crotone (3-5-2): Cordaz; Djidji, Golemic, Cuomo; Molina, Messias, Cigarini, Benali, Reca; Ounas, Simy
Suspended: none

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
