Andrea Pirlo got off to a perfect start in his coaching career, but Edin Džeko was on the verge of the transfer to Old Lady have many reasons for revenge when Roma host Juve at Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
After months of speculation, Edin Dzeko lines up for Roma against the club he so nearly joined. He was benched for last week’s 0-0 draw in Verona, but Arkadiusz Milik’s Napoli dispute stalled everything and Juve went for Morata instead. He’ll be eager to show Pirlo and Juve club board what they missed. That game with Verona ended 0-0 but was turned into a 3-0 defeat because they irregularly fielded Amadou Diawara due to an administrative error.
Roma is rebuilding around its young and talented Italian players; however, they simply just do not have the talent and maturity yet to be boxed in with the likes of Juventus and Inter and must be satisfied with some kind of connection with the Champions League positions. They ended the season on a brighter note looking much better after the restart, but not good enough for the top four. If they are to manage a Champions League finishing run those young Italian players like Pellegrini, Spinazzola, and Mancini need to take a huge leap forward and turn into top talents in Serie A. With Zaniolo injured already, it will be the biggest mountain to climb. Ex Chelsea and Barcelona attacker Pedro made his debut last weekend, meanwhile, and the club's supporters will be hoping that the Spaniard can enjoy a productive campaign.
Roma (3-4-2-1): Mirante; Mancini, Kumbulla, Ibanez; Karsdorp, Diawara, Veretout, Spinazzola; Pellegrini, Mkhitaryan; Dzeko
Suspended: None
Injured: Zaniolo, Perotti, Pastore, Fazio
Andrea Pirlo’s Juve put on a sparkling display to beat Sampdoria, with Aaron Ramsey free to roam, Gianluca Frabotta a revelation on the left side, and Dejan Kulusevski on target. Juventus has dominated Italian Football for nine years now and wins against Samp isn’t big news. With the entire attack relying on Dybala and Ronaldo for Sarri’s team last year, first-time manager Andrea Pirlo will definitely look to a new system going into this year. Pirlo is heavily targeting the midfield in the transfer market, linking Juventus to several young and upcoming creative midfielders. Their goal is to win the Champions League because it is very hard with the current roster, even with a first-time manager, to expect anything less than another championship for Juve.
They will need improvements from Sarri’s squads in three areas of the pitch. First, the midfield needs to be much more dominant if they are going to grab their 10th in a row. Deals for Arthur and Weston McKennie have boosted the team's midfield, while Alvaro Morata has returned to the club on a one-year loan deal, and it will be interesting to see how the Spaniard performs this season. Secondly, crosses from the wings must be improved to exploit all Ronaldo’s talents and the defense needs to take a step forward and improve after shaky last season.
Juve is still without the services of Matthijs de Ligt following shoulder surgery, a thigh strain is again expected to rule Federico Bernardeschi out of the contention. Alex Sandro is has a muscular problem that he picked up in training, but Paulo Dybala should be available after a thigh injury.
Juventus (3-5-2): Szczesny; Danilo, Bonucci, Chiellini; Cuadrado, Rabiot, McKennie, Ramsey, Frabotta; Kulusevski, Ronaldo
Suspended: None
Injured: De Ligt, Alex Sandro, Bernardeschi

Juve is a big favorite to win but Džeko should be at maximum efforts to score against the club that didn’t find a way to sign him. Both teams to score is our main option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
