Ex Roma manager Claudio Ranieri will try to stop his former club with Sampdoria in Serie A on Sunday.
Roma ended the year with a 3-2 win over Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday. Paulo Fonseca said 'someone wants to destroy Roma’ and revealed players didn’t handle his criticisms badly after the defeat against Atalanta. “I am satisfied, it was important to win. There are no easy games in Serie A and we always have to fight for the three points, we could have scored more goals, we created many goal-scoring opportunities. We had a tough moment, but we overcame it as a team.” The Portuguese tactician expects new signings in January.
The Giallorossi have appointed Tiago Pinto from Benfica and the new general manager of the club is already working to sign new players in the January transfer window. Roma is monitoring Celtic’s Jeremie Frimpong. The Hoops want €10m to sell the 20-year-old Paulo Fonseca’s agent Marco Abreu has begun preliminary talks to sign the player, according to the report. Elseid Hysaj is another player on Roma's shopping list as the Albania international is expected to leave Napoli as a free agent at the end of his contract next summer. Rennes’ Brandon Soppy and Zurich’s Becir Omeragic, who are both 18, are another two defenders linked with a move to the Stadio Olimpico.
Roma will be without goalkeeper Antonio Mirante and Leonardo Spinazzola due to injury, but otherwise, Fonseca looks to have a clean bill of health to choose from. Former Chelsea winger Pedro Rodriguez and Mkhitaryan are likely to slot in behind Dzeko in the attack. Nicolo Zaniolo is the only long-term absentee. Bryan Cristante is at a risk of suspension, having picked up four yellow cards in the top-flight so far. One more yellow would earn him an automatic suspension for the following game. Roma attacker Pedro Rodriguez had to train separately due to a muscle injury and is uncertain for the next match. The Spanish winger moved to Roma on a free transfer ahead of the season, as his contract at Chelsea expired, and he has contributed three goals and three assists since his arrival. The 33-year-old has played 13 games in Serie A for the Giallorossi.
Roma (3-4-2-1): Pau Lopez; Gianluca Mancini, Bryan Cristante, Marash Kambulla; Rick Karsdorp, Gonzalo Villar, Jordan Veretout, Bruno Peres; Pedro Rodriguez, Henrikh Mkhitaryan; Edin Dzeko.
Sampdoria coach Claudio Ranieri said Antonio Candreva wished him a Merry Christmas, as he highlighted there are 'no problems' at the Marassi. In an interview, the former Roma coach said all his players sent a message to wish him a happy Christmas, including the Inter loanee. Candreva and Ranieri had a falling out before the holidays but peace was restored ahead of Christmas and the veteran played the last 17 minutes of the 3-2 defeat to Sassuolo on December 23.
Ranieri saved the Blucerchiati from relegation last term and has helped them sit 11th in Serie A after 14 games in 2020-21. But he had to reassure fans about his position at the club, as his contract expires in June 2021. “I have no problems,” Ranieri told, “when the President wants to call me, we will sit down at the table. “Everyone would like to stay on the left side of the standings, but I always set myself a target of reaching 40 points. That’s because I know the difficulties of the championship.”
Sampdoria, meanwhile, is missing Manolo Gabbiadini, Alex Ferrari, and Bartosz Bereszynski due to injury. Keita Balde is suspended having been sent off late on in the defeat to Sassuolo. Albin Ekdal and Gaston Ramirez are on four yellow cards and risk suspension if booked again on Sunday.
Sampdoria (4-4-2): Emil Audero; Maya Yoshida, Lorenzo Tonelli, Omar Colley, Tommaso Augello; Antonio Candreva, Albin Ekdal, Morten Thorsby, Mikkel Damsgaard; Gaston Ramirez, Fabio Quagliarella.

With problems Roma has in the defensive department, both teams to score is our preferable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
