Germany is significant overdogs against Romania regardless of who takes to the field on Sunday. Romania has currently ranked 24 places below Die Mannschaft in the FIFA World Rankings, and they were only five minutes away from being held to a 2-2 draw by North Macedonia in their opening Group J game, Rangers' Ianis Hagi - son of perhaps the nation's greatest ever player, Gheorghe - coming off the bench to snatch a 3-2 win.
AC Milan goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu retired from international football late last year, so Sparta Prague's Florin Nita is set to continue between the posts. Midfielder Alexandru Maxim - previously of VfB Stuttgart and Mainz - is the player most familiar to Bundesliga fans. He and Hagi could be part of a midfield anchored by Alexandru Cretu, with coach Mirel Radoi unlikely to take as many risks as he did against North Macedonia. Maxim played 140 Bundesliga games, scoring 14 goals and assisting 27 more during spells with Stuttgart and Mainz.
Romania: Nita - Burca, Chiriches (c), Tosca, Bancu - Maxim, Cretu, Stanciu - Hagi, Keseru, Tanase
Out: Alibec (groin), Deac (not included), Grigore (knee), Tatarusanu (unavailable)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Mirel Radoi
Germany made short work of Iceland on Thursday, Leon Goretzka, Kai Havertz and Ilkay Gündogan scoring in a routine 3-0 win at MSV Duisburg's Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena. Manuel Neuer - now two appearances clear of fellow Bayern Munich club legend Sepp Maier as Germany's most capped goalkeeper with 97 - kept his 42nd international clean sheet. The 34-year-old was at one end of the age and experience spectrum on Wednesday, with club mate Jamal Musiala, 18, at the other. The young midfielder came off the bench to make his debut - replacing Havertz for the final 11 minutes - having previously amassed 23 youth international caps with England.
It is unlikely Musiala will be thrown straight in from the start quite yet, though - especially given how well another Bayern par, Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich, combined in central midfield. They should be joined by English Premier League leaders Manchester City's top scorer Gündogan once again, with Toni Kroos's injury-enforced withdrawal rather making coach Joachim Löw's decision for him. Löw will leave his post after UEFA Euro 2021 this summer. Who will be in his final 23-man squad remains to be seen, but Musiala's fellow teenager Florian Wirtz is another keen to make his case. The game likely comes too soon for center-back Niklas Süle, so an unchanged back four seems likely.
Germany: Neuer (c) - Can, Ginter, Rüdiger, Klostermann - Goretzka, Kimmich, Gündogan - Havertz, Gnabry, Sane
Out: Brandt (not included), Dahoud (not included), Draxler (not included), Gosens (muscular), Koch (knee), Henrichs (not included)
Doubtful: Süle (thigh)
Coach: Joachim Löw

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
