Romania will try to back on the winning path when they host Norway at the National Arena in Bucharest on Sunday.
Two consecutive defeats in the UNL fixture have pulled down Romania to third place in the table. The host has picked up 4 points from a win and a draw in their four league appearances. They will host on the back of a 5-3 win at home against Belarus in an international friendly last time out. Romania is battling with Northern Ireland to avoid relegation. Mirel Radoi’s side, meanwhile, has only won 2 of their last 9 matches, a 3-2 win over Austria in the Nations League in September and the aftermentioned victory in a friendly.
As for the hosts, they named a stronger-than-expected XI for their friendly with Belarus, but some changes are still likely for this second of three games in a week. Ionut Nedelcearu impressed and is in contention to start at the back, while Denis Alibec is the favorite to lead the line. Ianis Hagi is not with the squad, which opens up an opportunity for Eric Bicfalvi to play behind the two strikers. He has five goals from nine league starts in that position for Russian side Ural.
Romania will have to deal with the absence of a few key players in this game. Mihai Balasa, Nicusor Bancu, Valentin Cojocaru, and Vlad Chiriches are injured and have been ruled out of this fixture. Andrei Burca is also suspended for this game.
Romania (4-3-3): Ciprian Tatarusanu; Cristian Ganea, Alin Tosca, Ionut Nedelcearu, Cristian Manea; Nicolae Stanciu, Razvan Marin, Alexandru Maxim; Eric Bicfalvi, Denis Alibec, George Puscas
Norway’s friendly game against Israel scheduled for Wednesday was called off after a number of positive Covid tests amongst the away side’s squad, and that will have given the Norway players some extra rest in preparation for what could be a crucial game in Group B1 of the Nations League. Norway is currently level with Austria on 9 points at the top of the group, whilst Romania only has 4 points.
Having lost only one game in the campaign this term so far, Norway will come in hot on the back of a three-game winning streak in UNL group fixtures. They will visit on the back of a 1-0 win at home against the likes of Northern Ireland in the last league clash in the schedule. Led by Erling Haland, Norway recorded their previous three group games in style, and they are now on a quest to overtake Austria in top position in the standings.
Norway may have missed out on a place in the rescheduled Euro 2020 finals, going down 2-1 to Serbia in last month's playoff semi-final, but they are looking good in their Nations League group. Lars Lagerback's men bounced back from that extra-time disappointment against Serbia with back-to-back home wins over Romania and Northern Ireland. Erling Braut Haaland scored a hat-trick in the 4-0 victory against Romania and a second-half own goal from Stuart Dallas proved the difference against the Irish.
Norway will have to do without Birger Meling, Jonas Svensson, Mathias Normann, and Stian Gregersen in this game. With Normann sidelined, a change is required in central midfield with Markus Henriksen's favorite to partner with Sander Berge. Haitam Aleesami is the favorite to start at left-back with Meling injured, with Stefan Strandberg expected to partner Celtic's Kristoffer Ajer at center-back.
Norway (4-4-2): Rune Jarstein; Haitam Aleesami, Kristoffer Ajer, Stefan Strandberg, Omar Elabdellaoui; Mohamed Elyounoussi, Sander Berge, Markus Henrikson, Martin Odegaard; Alexander Sorloth, Erling Haaland

It should be a very attractive game because both sides have reason to believe that attack is better for part of the roster. Both teams to score is a most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
